258 <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Chairman Lentz, seconded by Commissioner Moss with Chairman <br />Lentz and Commissioners Moss, Hamby, and Simmons voting for and Commissioner <br />Melvin voting against, the Board denied the request to waive the tax penalty of <br />$62.29 for the 1989 personal property tax bill for Southco. <br /> Ms. Sue Casper, Chairman of the Senior Center Committee of the Council on <br />Aging Advisory Board, presented the plans for'the proposed Senior Center. The <br />proposed 15,000 square foot facility included 12,000 square feet of overall floor <br />space for the Center and 3,000 square feet for the Department of Aging. <br /> Mr. WilliamG. He indicated <br />the Council could raise over $100,O00.00--includtng cash, goods and services- <br />-and asked that the County provide an additional $360,000.00 for the Center. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Simmons, seconded by Commissioner Hamby and <br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the plans for the Senior Center as <br />presented by Ms. Sue Casper and agreed to pay $3.00 for every $1.00 raised by <br />the Council of Aging Advisory Board for the Senior Center. A maximum cap of <br />$360,000.00 was set for the County's appropriation with funds to be available <br />as soon as the matching money has been raised by the Advisory Council. <br /> UPON MOTION by Commissioner Melvin, seconded by Commissioner Moss and <br />unanimously carried, the Board authorized the investigation for asbestos and <br />demolition of the store building located on the proposed Senior Center site. <br /> Mr. Dennis Yates, Architect, reviewed the following bids received on <br />November 30, 1989 for the furniture package for the Cabarrus County Governmental <br />Center.
