January 30, 2016 (Board Retreat) <br />Page 2 63 8 <br />Terry Crawford, Interim President and CEO, Cabarrus Economic <br />Development Corporation (EDC) introduced staff attending with him. Samantha <br />Grass, Project Manager; LeeAnn Nixon, Existing Industry Specialist; and <br />Joshua Fernandez, Research and Marketing Assistant, were also in attendance <br />and presented sections of the EDC presentation. The presentation included <br />the following topics: <br />• Cabarrus Economic Development Mission <br />• Update on Current Operations <br />• Key Result Areas: Product Development, Business Retention and <br />Expansion, and Recruitment <br />• Marketing Plan <br />• Future Direction <br />Mike Downs, County Manager, reviewed future options and direction, and <br />also discussed the current incentive policy. Kevin Gates, Tax Auditor, was <br />also in attendance and briefly shared his perspective from the audit and <br />administration side of incentive grants. <br />Break <br />p.m. <br />The Board took a short break at 2:06 p.m. The meeting resumed at 2:19 <br />BOC Goals and Objectives <br />Jonathan Marshall, Deputy County Manager, reviewed the Board's <br />strategic planning and goal - setting efforts from the previous year. He <br />requested direction from the Board if there were additional areas of focus <br />that they would like added. A discussion ensued during which Board members <br />assessed their progress over the past year, and commented on areas for <br />potential growth in 2016. <br />Mike Downs, County Manager, and Pam Dubois, Senior Deputy County <br />Manager, revisited the topic of capital reserve funds at the end of this <br />discussion. <br />Adjourn <br />UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Honeycutt, seconded by Commissioner Shue, <br />and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 3 :20 p.m. <br />Megan it, lerk to the Board <br />
