Cabarrus County continues to work with the majority of our <br /> municipalities on joint land use plans as we look to the future. <br /> The intent of these plans is to meet the needs of our citizens <br /> and guide government infrastructure investment that maintains <br /> responsible governmental spending. <br /> 3. The Board of Commissioners continues to build upon established <br /> channels and explore new ways to communicate with the public <br /> frequently and transparently. The County has resourcefully <br /> planned several major communication initiatives to coincide, <br /> including a branding campaign, website redesign, and launch of <br /> a livestream version of the County' s PEG television channel. <br /> Website users will benefit from visual consistency, enhanced <br /> experiences, and increased reach of programming. The intent is <br /> to attract economic development, promote viewing of Board of <br /> Commissioners meetings, and help successfully deliver <br /> information about programs and services offered by the County. <br /> 4. The Board of Commissioners, County staff and County departments <br /> individually and collectively win awards at the state and <br /> national level. These awards recognize the many efforts that <br /> creatively and responsibly offer the highest level of programs <br /> and services to our citizens. We are proud to recognize the Board <br /> of Commissioners, Communications and Outreach, Construction <br /> Services, Cooperative Extension, Emergency Medical Services, <br /> Fair, Finance, Human Resources and Information Technology <br /> Services departments for their achievements. <br /> 5. The demands of a keeping a strong workforce in a strengthening <br /> economy have become more apparent in several high-need <br /> departments, which include Human Services, Public Safety, and <br /> Facilities Maintenance. We continue to strive to offer our <br /> current and prospective employees market-competitive <br /> compensation packages. This budget includes funding to implement <br /> the recommendations of the Comprehensive Salary Study completed <br /> during FY17. This will help with recruiting and retaining <br /> qualified employees to continue to offer exceptional service to <br /> the public. <br /> 6. Several departments have requested new positions to meet <br /> additional demands. As caseload volumes continue to rise, along <br /> with case complexity and morale issues, Human Services is <br /> requesting additional positions. Active Living and Parks needs <br /> additional staff to operate the newly opened Rob Wallace Park. <br /> Human Resources has requested a recruiter to assist with the <br /> constant challenge of filling vacancies across County <br /> departments. The County Manager's Office has requested a budget <br /> analyst to work with countywide budget and performance <br /> evaluation. Communications and Outreach has requested an <br /> additional position to help maintain and build upon the County' s <br /> transparency and message delivery through Cabarrus County <br /> Television, web and social media platforms, and maintain the new <br /> website. Infrastructure and Asset Management has requested a <br /> grounds maintenance worker and custodian due to the increase in <br /> expanding building and service needs. EMS has requested five <br /> part-time emergency medical technicians to assist with workload <br /> and the part- to full-time ratio. Construction Standards is in <br /> need of two additional code enforcement officers and a permit <br /> clerk to help with the increased growth around the county. The <br /> Sheriff' s Department has requested a records clerk to meet the <br /> increased volume in concealed carry permits. Last, the Emergency <br /> Management department has requested an additional fire fighter <br /> as part of the newly implemented Manpower Unit that works with <br /> the volunteer fire departments to provide fire service <br /> countywide. <br /> 7. The Board of Commissioners and staff continue to work with the <br /> United States and North Carolina departments of transportation, <br /> and our municipalities to advocate for additional roads and <br /> improvement of existing roads. Tracking these projects ensures <br /> that congestion, safety, and mobility issues that exist in our <br /> county are at the forefront when those decision-making bodies <br /> meet and plan future projects.
