July 27, 2017 (Cabarrus Summit) Page 3237 <br /> • Mental Illness is Common <br /> • Risk Factors vs. Protective Factors <br /> • Treatment and Self-help <br /> • How to Help an Individual in a Mental Health Crisis <br /> • Summary <br /> A Broken System <br /> Barbi Jones of Cabarrus Chamber of Commerce presented a PowerPoint <br /> presentation titled "A Broken System". She spoke about mental health care within <br /> the medical system in Cabarrus County, sharing her experience in obtaining <br /> assistance for a family member. <br /> Mental Health First Aid Overview <br /> Lynn Hennighausen of Carolinas Healthcare System presented a PowerPoint <br /> presentation on Mental Health First Aid. Information regarding suicide facts, <br /> figures and prevention were included. She also discussed upcoming sessions for <br /> Mental Health First Aid. Sign-up sheets were provided for attendees to register <br /> for the upcoming Mental Health First Aid sessions planned for August 25, <br /> September 15, October 7 and October 20, 2017. <br /> General Discussion <br /> Commissioner Poole requested that mental health first aid training be <br /> provided to the schools and to school staff. <br /> Mr. Downs commented on the Stepping Up program and announced a forum on <br /> opioid abuse has been planned for September 7, 2017 at Kannapolis City Hall. In <br /> closing, he thanked attendees for their time and participation. <br /> Break <br /> The Board took a short break at 8: 16 p.m. The meeting resumed at 8 :25 <br /> p.m. <br /> Appointment of Interim Clerk to the Board <br /> UPON MOTION by Vice Chairman Honeycutt, seconded by Commissioner Shue and <br /> unanimously carried, the Board appointed Angela Poplin as Interim Clerk to the <br /> Board effective July 28, 2017 until such time as a permanent clerk is appointed. <br /> Appointment of Interim Tax Administrator <br /> There was a brief discussion regarding the appointment of an Interim Tax <br /> Administrator. <br /> UPON MOTION by Commissioner Poole, seconded by Commissioner Kiger and <br /> unanimously carried, the Board appointed David Thrift as Interim Tax <br /> Administrator effective August 9, 2017, subject to his ability to secure bond, <br /> and until such time as the permanent Tax Administrator takes office. <br /> Branding Discussion <br /> Kasia Thompson, Communications and Outreach Manager and Kristin Bunton, <br /> Communications and Outreach Coordinator presented a PowerPoint presentation <br /> overview of the branding process. Two options were presented to the Board for <br /> consideration. There was discussion regarding the style, colors, fonts and logos <br /> of the two options. <br /> Adjourn <br /> UPON MOTION by Commissioner Kiger, seconded b V' ce Chairman Honeycutt <br /> and unanimously carried, the meeting adjour d at 8 57 m. <br /> e Le Hugie Cle to the Board <br />
