May 18, 2015 (Regular Meeting) Page 2581 <br />Vice Chairman Poole presented a service award to Mr. Kinsey and <br />expressed appreciation for his service. <br />Mr. Kinsey graciously accepted the award and expressed appreciation. <br />(C -2) Cooperative Extension - Recognition of Youth Commission Graduating <br />cz-- � � <br />Tracy LeCompte, Cooperative Extension, Adult Advisor for the Cabarrus <br />County Youth Commission, recognized graduating seniors of the Youth <br />Commission and thanked them for their service. <br />Youth Commission members Michael Walker, Chair, and Mason Zgoda <br />presented updates regarding Commission activities over the year. <br />(C -3) Planning and Development - Soil and Water Conservation District - <br />Recognition of State Winners in Conservation Education Contests <br />This item was tabled to the July 20, 2015 regular meeting. <br />(C - 4) Veterans Services - Presentation of Flags <br />Tim Tereska, Veterans Services Director, presented two flags to the <br />Board. The first flag, a North Carolina State flag, was presented to Mr. <br />Tereska, on behalf of the Board, by N.C. Representative Larry Pittman. The <br />flag was flown over the State Capital in Raleigh on November 19, 2014, in <br />commemoration of the dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Park. The second <br />flag was a United States flag given by the office of Congressman Richard <br />Hudson. This flag was flown over the U.S. Capital in Washington, D.C. on <br />November 15, 2014, the date park dedication ceremony. Mr. Tereska <br />recommended the flags be flown at Vietnam Veterans Park on Veterans Day and <br />Memorial Day each year. <br />Chairman Morris voiced support for Mr. Tereska's suggestion and thanked <br />him for the presentation. <br />(C - 5) BOC - Memorial Day Proclamation <br />Chairman Morris read the proclamation aloud. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Honeycutt, seconded by Commissioner Mynatt <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation: <br />Proclamation No. 2015 -08 <br />MEMORIAL DAY 2015 PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, across this great country, ,America will join on May 25, 2015 <br />to honor her fallen heroes of the Armed Forces; and <br />WHEREAS, Memorial Day was first proclaimed a national holiday in 1868 <br />to pay homage to those who answered the call to defend the principles on <br />which our nation was founded; and <br />WHEREAS, throughout the course of generations, both at home and on <br />foreign soil, men and women in uniform have sacrificed for the promise of <br />freedom, the preservation of our values and the ideals of democracy; and <br />WHEREAS, men and women in uniform have paid for our Liberty with their <br />lives, we hold in remembrance their selflessness with deepest honor and <br />respect and are indebted to their memories for the valiant and honorable path <br />of service they followed; and <br />WHERAS, we share in the sorrow with and express our support to the <br />families who also sacrificed greatly for their fellow citizens as they gave <br />up their sons and daughters to serve our country and to search for a day when <br />peace will abound. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners do hereby proclaim Memorial Day, May 25, 2015 in recognition of <br />the men and women in uniform who have made the supreme sacrifice and further <br />urge all citizens to pause for a moment of silence at noon on May 25, 2015 to <br />honor and to reflect on the memory of our fallen heroes of the Armed Forces. <br />Adopted this the 18th day of May, 2015. <br />
