<br />At the County Manager's request, Susan Fearrington, Finance Director,
<br />and Fire Marshal Steve Langer, explained the following chart.
<br />FY 2016 Cabarrus County Fire Districts
<br />Northeast- Cabarrus Volunteer Fire Department
<br />Fire Marshal Steve Langer, reported the Northeast -Cabarrus Volunteer
<br />Fire Department (VFD) is requesting a 6 -cent increase, bringing their fire
<br />district tax rate to 12.7 cents.
<br />Captain Pat Bergeron, Northeast - Cabarrus VFD, and Northeast - Cabarrus VFD
<br />Board President, presented a request for a 6 -cent increase for the Northeast -
<br />Cabarrus VFD. He advised the majority of the increase for FY16 would be used
<br />to fund staffing, add sprinklers to the fire department building and for the
<br />purchase of a new fire truck with necessary equipment.
<br />A discussion ensued. During discussion, Fire Marshal Langer, Captain
<br />Bergeron, Tracy Brown, Northeast- Cabarrus VFD Board Treasurer, and Jonathan
<br />Marshall, Deputy County Manager, responded to questions from the Board.
<br />General Discussion
<br />Mike Downs, County Manager, advised the Board should have received
<br />additional information requested from the first budget workshop and will also
<br />receive information requested during today's budget workshop meeting. He
<br />stated capital priorities will be presented at Monday's work session and
<br />requested feedback from the Board.
<br />Vice Chairman Poole requested consideration of a request from local
<br />veterans for the installation of benches, flag poles and a reflection area at
<br />Vietnam Veterans Park.
