April 21, 2014 (Regular Meeting) Page 1984 <br />Brad Riley, Cabarrus County Sheriff, recognized Sergeant Timothy Culp <br />on his retirement from his position as Crime Scene Officer with the Cabarrus <br />County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Riley highlighted a number of Sergeant <br />Culp's accomplishments during his twenty - nine -year tenure. He also <br />recognized Sergeant Culp's family in attendance and commended them for their <br />support during his time in the Department. <br />Vice Chairman Burrage presented a service award in appreciation of his <br />service and dedication to the county. <br />Sergeant Culp accepted the award and expressed appreciation. <br />(C -3) Human Resources - Recognition of 2014 Healthiest Employers of Greater <br />Charlotte Awards <br />Lundee Covington, Human Resources Director, announced Cabarrus County <br />participated for the past two years in the Charlotte Business Journal's <br />Healthiest Employers of Greater Charlotte Competition. She stated the County <br />came in 4 th place as a top - ranked large business. She recognized and credited <br />Johanna Ray, Wellness Director, for her contributions and achievements with <br />wellness programs for the county. <br />Ms. Ray displayed the award presented to the County. <br />Ms. Covington also recognized Pam Dubois, Deputy County Manager, for <br />receiving the Healthiest CEO of Greater Charlotte award. <br />Ms. Dubois accepted the award and commended Ms. Ray for her dedication <br />and achievements with the Employee Wellness Program. <br />C -4) Active Living and Parks - Proclamation for Older Americans Month <br />Chairman Poole read the proclamation aloud. <br />UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Burrage, seconded by Commissioner <br />Oesterreich and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following <br />proclamation: <br />Proclamation No. 2014 -05 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />OLDER AMERICANS MONTH MAY 2014 <br />"Safe Today, Healthy Tomorrow" <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County Senior Centers Advisory Council is committed to <br />the 59,503 Cabarrus County older adults and adults with <br />disabilities ages 50 and older projected as of July 1, 2033 (Data <br />retrieved from NC Data Center on January 14, 2014); and <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County Senior Centers Advisory Council is committed to <br />recognize older adults and adults with disabilities for their <br />contributions and provide them with information to stay engaged, <br />healthy and active; and <br />WHEREAS, the older adults and adults with disabilities are at a much <br />higher risk of unintentional injuries and even death; and <br />WHEREAS, our older adults and adults with disabilities are active <br />community members involved in volunteering, mentorship, arts and <br />culture, and civic engagement; and <br />WHEREAS, our community can provide opportunities to allow older adults and <br />adults with disabilities to focus on injury prevention by: <br />• Emphasizing the importance of older adults to stay active, <br />engaged, and healthy <br />• Presenting opportunities for older adults to participate in <br />healthy living programs and resources <br />• Recognizing older adults as a valuable asset in strengthening <br />the Cabarrus County health and safety initiatives <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners do hereby proclaim May 2014 to be Older Americans Month. We <br />urge every Cabarrus County citizen to take time this month to recognize older <br />adults and adults with disabilities and to use this opportunity to raise <br />
