April 21, 2014 (Regular Meeting) Page 1986 <br />Thanks Cooperative Extension volunteers who provide thousands of hours <br />to promote excellence for 4 -H, Master Gardeners, family and consumer sciences <br />and other programs in their communities. <br />Encourages continued collaboration and cooperation among federal, state <br />and local governments to ensure Cooperative Extension's sustainability as the <br />nation's premiere non- formal educational network. <br />Celebrates millions of youth, adults, families, farmers, community <br />leaders and others who engage in Cooperative Extension learning opportunities <br />designed to extend knowledge and change lives. <br />In North Carolina, Cabarrus County and commend this observance to all. <br />Adopted this 21" day of April, 2014. <br />/s! Poole, Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br />Chairman Poole recognized Cooperative Extension staff and volunteers in <br />attendance. <br />Robert Furr, Cooperative Extension Director, recognized key volunteers <br />Tommy Porter, Chairman of the Cooperative Extension Advisory Committee and <br />Gail Linker, 4 -H Program and Family Consumer Science Program volunteer. <br />Mr. Porter stated Cooperative Extension reaches out with its many arms <br />and fingers to all walks of life in the county. <br />Ms. Linker highlighted how Cooperative Extension has impacted and <br />improved citizen's lives since its establishment one hundred years ago. She <br />announced there were 53,117 volunteer hours donated last year to nonprofit <br />groups and others in Cabarrus County at a value of $1,173,796.00. <br />Mr. Furr thanked the Board for their support. He advised there will be <br />many celebration events throughout 2014. He also recognized the following <br />Cooperative Extension staff in attendance: Pam Outen, David Goforth, Tracy <br />LeCompte, Minnie Mitchell, Beverly Bollenbecker, Carl Pless and Christine <br />Barrier. <br />(C -6) EMS - Cabarrus Counter EmerStency Services Week Proclamation <br />Chairman Poole read the proclamation aloud. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Measmer, seconded by Vice Chairman Burrage <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation: <br />Proclamation No. 2014 -07 <br />CABARRUS COUNTY <br />North Carolina <br />P R O C L A M A T I 0 N <br />WHEREAS, emergency medical services is a vital public service; and <br />WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to <br />provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven <br />days a week; and <br />WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the <br />survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness <br />or injury; and <br />WHEREAS, emergency medical services teams consist of emergency physicians, <br />emergency nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, <br />firefighters, educators, administrators, and others; and <br />approximately two- thirds of all emergency medical services <br />providers are volunteers; and <br />WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams, whether career <br />or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized <br />training and continuing education enhance their lifesaving <br />skills; and <br />
