April 21, 2014 (Regular Meeting) Page 1987 <br />WHEREAS, Americans benefit daily from the knowledge and skills of these <br />highly trained individuals; and <br />WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments <br />of emergency medical service providers by designating Emergency <br />Medical Services Week; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners, in recognition of this event do hereby proclaim the week of <br />May 18 - 24, 2014, as <br />CABARRUS COUNTY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK <br />Adopted this 21 day of April, 2014. <br />/s/ Elizabeth F. Poole, Chairman <br />Board of Commissioners <br />ATTEST: <br />/s/ Megan Smit <br />Megan Smit, Clerk to the Board <br />(C -7) Planning and Development (Soil and Water Conservation District) - <br />Stewardship Week Proclamation <br />Vicki Porter, Cabarrus County Soil and Water Conservation District <br />Chair, advised the stewardship concept involves personal and social <br />responsibility, including a duty to learn about and improve natural resources <br />as we use them wisely, leaving a rich legacy for future generations. Dennis <br />Testerman, Soil and Water Conservation District Resource Conservation <br />Specialist and Tommy Porter, Soil and Water Conservation District Board <br />Member were also in attendance. <br />Chairman Poole read the proclamation aloud. <br />UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Burrage, seconded by Commissioner Measmer <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation: <br />Proclamation No. 2414 -08 <br />Soil and Water Stewardship Week <br />2014 <br />P R 0 C L A M A T I 0 N <br />Whereas fertile soil and clean water provide us with our daily <br />sustenance, and <br />Whereas effective conservation practices have helped provide us a rich <br />standard of living, and <br />Whereas our security depends upon healthy soil and clean water, and <br />Whereas stewardship calls for each person to help conserve these <br />precious resources, <br />Therefore, I do hereby proclaim <br />April 27 to May 4, 2014 <br />Soil and Water Stewardship Week <br />/s/ Elizabeth F Poole Chairman, Board of Commissioner April 21, 2014 <br />Name Title Date <br />(J -1) General Comments by Board Members <br />Commissioner Measmer stated it is not the intention of the Board to cut <br />departments and services during the budget process. <br />Commissioner Oesterreich stated he will not move forward with the cash <br />for schools plan if it requires cuts to departments and services. He also <br />commented on deceptive practices and scare tactics in regards to his run for <br />office in the upcoming primary. <br />
