<br />Mr. Crabtree advised funding for the new Kannapolis Middle School is
<br />requested along with previous capital requests.
<br />Mr. Adams announced Dr. Pamela Cain, Kannapolis City Schools
<br />Superintendent is out of town and unable to attend today's budget meeting.
<br />Following the presentation, Mr. Crabtree, Mr. Adams and Dr. Buckwell
<br />responded to a variety of questions from the Board.
<br />CCS Presentation of FY 2015 Budget Request
<br />Blake Kiger, Cabarrus County Schools (CCS) Board of Education (BOE)
<br />Chair, introduced the following representatives in attendance: Dr. Barry
<br />Shepherd, CCS Superintendent; Kelly Kluttz, Chief Finance Officer; Barry
<br />Shoemaker, CCS BOE Vice Chairman; CCS Board Members David Harrison and Lynn
<br />Shue; Dr. Jason Van Heukelum, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and
<br />Instruction; Dr. Kelly Propst, Assistant Superintendent; Matthew Fail,
<br />Executive Director of Organizational Planning and Accountability; Donna
<br />Smith, Executive Director Student Services; Ronnye Boone, Director of Public
<br />Relations; Dr. Robert Kirk, Managing Director of Superintendent's Office; Dr.
<br />Chris Lowder, Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services; Glenda
<br />Jones, Chief Human Resources Officer; and Mark Enriques, CCS Board Attorney.
<br />Dr. Barry Shepherd, CCS Superintendent, reported the following numbers
<br />for CCS and mentioned accomplishments the school system has achieved.
<br />• 30,000 Students guaranteed 1,025 instructional hours every year
<br />• 3,800 Employees
<br />• $27.5 million awarded in scholarships for the Class of 0713
<br />• 3 CCS high schools included in U.S. News & World Report for best NC
<br />high schools
<br />• 1C0 percent - all 19 KIDS:PLUS sites received 5 -star rating from SACERS
<br />(School Age Care Environmental Rating Scale)
<br />• 99.4 percent - average school health inspection score (22 schools
<br />scored 100 percent)
<br />• 42 percent - free and reduced meals
<br />• 3 million meals served each year
<br />• $750K grant to fund SROs for our elementary schools
<br />• $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education for innovative
<br />approach to STEM education
