<br />Dr. Pilkington stated CHA cannot do the job they are asked to do with
<br />the kind of funding restrictions being placed on them.
<br />A lengthy discussion ensued. Topics addressed included: benefits of
<br />having school nurses; the effect the lack of clinical services may have on
<br />the community; funding from state and federal grants; facility costs; free
<br />and pay programs offered at the CHA; etc.
<br />Several commissioners requested more detailed information for review.
<br />CVB - Presentation of FY 2015 Bud et Request
<br />The following Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB)
<br />representatives were present: Donna Carpenter, CVB President and CEO and
<br />John Mills, CVB Executive Vice President. The following Cabarrus County
<br />Tourism Authority Board members were also present: Ray Soporowski, Tourism
<br />Authority Chairman; Tim Hagler, Charlotte Motor Speedway; Liz Poole, BCC
<br />Chairman; and Mike Downs, County Manager, Patrick Coughlin, President {CEC)
<br />Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce and Cabarrus Economic Development
<br />(EDC), was also in attendance.
<br />Donna Carpenter, CVB President and CEO, reviewed both past and upcoming
<br />events, noting their economic impact on Cabarrus County. She also presented
<br />new CVB Destination Guides to the Board.
<br />John Mills, CVB Executive Vice President, presented a general overview
<br />of the CVB's FY 15 budget totaling $4,251,467.00 and responded to questions
<br />from the Board.
<br />Tourism Authority Chairman Ray Soporowski reported the Authority
<br />approved the budget. He also reported the CVB has received state recognition
<br />and expressed support for the operations of the CVB.
<br />A discussion ensued. During discussion, Ms. Carpenter attributed the
<br />CVB's success to partnerships with the business community.
<br />Commissioner Morris announced the Grand Opening of the Rotary Club of
<br />Cabarrus County's Disc Golf Course at Frank Liske Park will be Saturday, May
<br />31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
<br />Chairman Poole commended the CVB for their efforts and contributions to
<br />the community.
<br />Discussion continued. information addressed included the Sea Life
<br />Aquarium.
