April 15, 2013 (Regular Meeting) Page 1499 <br />WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect is a community responsibility affecting both <br />the current and future quality of life of a community; <br />WHEREAS, communities that provide parents with the social support, knowledge <br />of parenting and child development and concrete resources they need to cope <br />with stress and nurture their children ensure all children grow to their full <br />potential; <br />WHEREAS, effective child abuse prevention strategies succeed because of <br />partnerships created among citizens, human service agencies, schools, faith <br />communities, health care providers, civic organizations, law enforcement <br />agencies, and the business community; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners does hereby proclaim April 2013 as <br />CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH <br />and call upon all citizens, community agencies, faith groups, medical <br />facilities, elected leaders and businesses to increase their participation in <br />our efforts to support families, thereby preventing child abuse and <br />strengthening the communities in which we live. <br />Adopted this the 15 day of April, 2013. <br />/s/ Elizabeth F. Poole, Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br />(C -9) Library - National Library Week Proclamation <br />Chairman Poole read the proclamation proclaiming April 14 -20, 2013 as <br />National Library Week aloud. <br />UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman White, seconded by Commissioner Burrage <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation: <br />Proclamation No. 2013 -08 <br />Proclamation <br />National Library Week 2013 Proclamation <br />WHEREAS, libraries are the heart of their communities; <br />WHEREAS, librarians work to meet the changing needs of their communities, <br />including providing resources for everyone and bringing services outside of <br />library walls; <br />WHEREAS, libraries and librarians bring together community members to enrich <br />and shape the community and address local issues; <br />WHEREAS, libraries work to meet the changing needs of their users, including <br />building collections, expanding services and increasing programming; <br />WHEREAS, our nation's libraries provide a forum for diverse ideas and points <br />of view that help us better understand each other and ourselves; <br />WHEREAS, librarians are trained professionals, helping people of all ages and <br />backgrounds find and interpret the information they need to live, learn and <br />work in a challenging economy; <br />WHEREAS, libraries are part of the American dream, places for education, <br />opportunity and lifelong learning; <br />WHEREAS, libraries continuously grow and evolve in how they provide for the <br />needs of every member of their communities; <br />WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America <br />are celebrating National Library Week. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaim <br />National Library Week, April 14 -20, 2013 and encourage all residents to visit <br />the library this week to take advantage of the wonderful library resources <br />available at your library. <br />
