April 16, 2012 (Regular Meeting) <br />Page 1018 <br />firefighters, educators, administrators, and others; and <br />approximately two- thirds of all emergency medical services <br />providers are volunteers; and <br />WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams, whether career <br />or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized <br />training and continuing education enhance their lifesaving <br />skills; and <br />WHEREAS, Americans benefit daily from the knowledge and skills of these <br />highly trained individuals; and <br />WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments <br />of emergency medical service providers by designating Emergency <br />Medical Services Week; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners, in recognition of this event do hereby proclaim the week of <br />May 21 - 25, 2012, as <br />CABARRUS COUNTY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK <br />Adopted this 16 day of April, 2012. <br />/s/ Elizabeth F. She then presented plaques to Matt Barrier, Livestock Coordinator, <br />Angela Blatt, Fair and Events Coordinator, Mary Ann Cooper, Exhibit Director, <br />and Joanne Levy, Office Assistant. <br />Chairman Poole expressed appreciation and commended staff for these <br />accomplishments. A brief discussion ensued. <br />(C -5) Human Resources - Recognition of James H. Polk on His Retirement from <br />Cabarrus County Department of Social Services <br />Ben Rose, Human Services Director recognized James H. Polk on his <br />retirement from the Department of Social Services with over thirty -five (35) <br />years of service to Cabarrus County. He presented a service award and <br />expressed appreciation for Mr. Polk's many years of dedicated service to the <br />citizens of Cabarrus County. <br />Mr. Polk accepted the award and expressed appreciation for the <br />opportunity to work for Cabarrus County. A brief discussion ensued in which <br />the Board expressed appreciation for his accomplishments and service to <br />Cabarrus County. <br />Mr. Rose also announced the retirement of Susan Gadd from the <br />Department of Social Services Economic Services Division. She retired at the <br />end of March with thirty (30) years of service to the County. <br />(C -6) Planning (SCWD) - Soil and Water Stewardship Week Proclamation <br />Jeff Goforth, Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District Chairman, <br />presented statistical data on the District, stated this year's theme is "Soil <br />to Spoon" and thanked the Board for their support. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Commissioner White and <br />unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation: <br />Proclamation No. 2012 -06 <br />Stewardship Week <br />2012 <br />
