April 18, 2011 (Regular Meeting) Page 408 <br />The Board took a short break at 8:05 p.m. The meeting reconvened at <br />8:15 p.m. <br />(I) REPORTS <br />(I -1) EDC - Quarterly Update for the Period of January - March 2011 <br />John Cox, Anna Lu Wilson, Samantha Moose and Ryan McDaniels, with the <br />Cabarrus Economic Development Corporation (EDC), presented the EDC's <br />Quarterly Update for the Period of January - March 2011 in accordance with <br />their annual contract with the County. The report included the following <br />information: <br />• North Carolina Economic Overview: February and March 2011 <br />• National Economic Update <br />• Analysis of Employment - Changes for Cabarrus County <br />• Distribution of Employment for 2009 <br />• Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages <br />• Data on New EDC Website <br />• FY 2011 -2012 Approved Budget <br />• Staff Activities <br />• Prospect Report - 4/8/11; January - March 2011 <br />• Missions, Conventions, Education Report <br />• Local Contacts /Visits <br />• Sustainability Article, April 2011 <br />• Miscellaneous <br />EDC representatives responded to several questions from the Board. No <br />action was taken. <br />(I -2) BOC - Receive Updates from Commission Members Who Serve as Liaisons to <br />Municipalities or on Various Board /Committees <br />Commissioner Measmer advised the Cabarrus County Youth Council has met <br />several times and will meet on Thursday, April 21S to make Easter treat bags <br />for Meals on Wheels recipients. Further, the Council will present a report <br />to the Board at the May regular meeting. <br />(I -3) Request for Applications for County Boards /Committees <br />Applications are being accepted for the following County <br />Boards /Committees: <br />• Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee <br />• Animal Protection and Preservation Advisory Committee <br />• Concord Planning and Zoning Commission (ETJ) <br />• Industrial Facilities and Pollution Control Financing Authority <br />• Juvenile Crime Prevention Council <br />• Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee <br />• Youth Council <br />Chairman White asked citizens to consider participating on a Board or <br />Committee. <br />(J) GENERAL COMMENTS BY BOARD MEMBERS <br />Vice Chairman Poole commented on her visit to "The Wall That Heals ", a <br />replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Frank Liske Park and encouraged <br />residents to attend the ceremony for M.I.A. (Missing in Action) Vietnam <br />Veteran, Sergeant First Class Donald Shue being held at 11:00 a.m. on <br />Saturday, April 30, 2011 in Concord. <br />Chairman White commended Dana Eure, Library Director, and Library staff <br />on the success of the "One Book One Community" initiative. He also commended <br />staff and the Food Policy Council for their efforts and accomplishments. <br />WATER AND SEWER DISTRICT OF CABARRUS COUNTY <br />None. <br />(L) CLOSED SESSION <br />(L -1) Closed Session - Location or Expansion of Industries (If needed.) <br />
