December 19, 2011 (Regular Meeting) Page 887 (F -2) BOC - Proclamation - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day The following proclamation designates January 16, 2012 as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Cabarrus County. UPON MOTION of Commissioner White, seconded by Vice Chairman Burrage and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation: Proclamation No. 2011 -14 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, and devoted his life to fighting poverty, injustice and racism in America; and WHEREAS, Dr. King, through his practice of non - violent protest, promoted the importance of love, peace and freedom for humankind and challenged America to honor its promise of liberty and justice for all citizens; and WHEREAS, during his lifetime, Dr. King sought to forge the common ground on which individuals of all ages, races and backgrounds could join together to address important community issues and provide service to their community; and WHEREAS, the third Monday in January has been established as a national holiday to observe the anniversary of Dr. King's birth. NOW THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaims' Monday, January 16, 2012 as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Cabarrus County and encourages all citizens to join in the special programs and ceremonies to be held on January 14 -16 honoring the life and work of Dr. King and his legacy of peace and equality for all citizens. The following resolution establishes the Board's meeting schedule for UPON MOTION of Commissioner White, seconded by Vice Chairman Burrage and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following resolution: Resolution No. 2011 -24 RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE REGULAR MEETING SCHEDULE FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2012 WHEREAS, the regular agenda work sessions of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners are held on the first Monday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at the Governmental Center, except in December; and WHEREAS, the regular meetings of the Board of Commissioners are held on the third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Commissioners' Meeting Room at the Governmental Center; and WHEREAS, the New Year's Holiday and the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday requires a change in the work session and regular meeting dates in January 2012; and WHEREAS, the Labor Day holiday requires a change in the agenda work session meeting date in September 2012; and
