December 19, 2011 (Regular Meeting) Page 887 <br />(F -2) BOC - Proclamation - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day <br />The following proclamation designates January 16, 2012 as Dr. Martin <br />Luther King, Jr. Day in Cabarrus County. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner White, seconded by Vice Chairman Burrage <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation: <br />Proclamation No. 2011 -14 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was born on January 15, 1929 in <br />Atlanta, Georgia, and devoted his life to fighting poverty, injustice and <br />racism in America; and <br />WHEREAS, Dr. King, through his practice of non - violent protest, <br />promoted the importance of love, peace and freedom for humankind and <br />challenged America to honor its promise of liberty and justice for all <br />citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, during his lifetime, Dr. King sought to forge the common <br />ground on which individuals of all ages, races and backgrounds could join <br />together to address important community issues and provide service to their <br />community; and <br />WHEREAS, the third Monday in January has been established as a national <br />holiday to observe the anniversary of Dr. King's birth. <br />NOW THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby <br />proclaims' Monday, January 16, 2012 as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in <br />Cabarrus County and encourages all citizens to join in the special programs <br />and ceremonies to be held on January 14 -16 honoring the life and work of Dr. <br />King and his legacy of peace and equality for all citizens. <br />Adopted this the 19 day of December, 2011. <br />/s/ Elizabeth F. Poole, Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br />Attest: <br />/s/ Kay Honeycutt <br />Kay Honeycutt, Clerk to the Board <br />(F -3) BOC - Resolution Establishing the Board of Commissioners' 2012 Meeting <br />Schedule <br />2012. <br />The following resolution establishes the Board's meeting schedule for <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner White, seconded by Vice Chairman Burrage <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following resolution: <br />Resolution No. 2011 -24 <br />RESOLUTION <br />ESTABLISHING THE REGULAR MEETING SCHEDULE <br />FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2012 <br />WHEREAS, the regular agenda work sessions of the Cabarrus County Board <br />of Commissioners are held on the first Monday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in <br />the Multipurpose Room at the Governmental Center, except in December; and <br />WHEREAS, the regular meetings of the Board of Commissioners are held on <br />the third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Commissioners' Meeting <br />Room at the Governmental Center; and <br />WHEREAS, the New Year's Holiday and the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday <br />requires a change in the work session and regular meeting dates in January <br />2012; and <br />WHEREAS, the Labor Day holiday requires a change in the agenda work <br />session meeting date in September 2012; and <br />
