January 19, 2010 (Regular Meeting) Page 1776 <br />Chairman White commented on how nice the park is going to be and that <br />everyone is looking forward to one day enjoying the amenities of the park. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Commissioner Carruth <br />and unanimously carried, the Board voted to approve the Masterplan for the <br />Rob Wallace Park as presented. <br />(G-2) BOC - Resolution Advocatin for the Reinstatement of Agreements <br />between General Motors Corporation and Ben Mynatt Chevrolet - Cadillac <br />Dealership <br />Chairman White asked the Board to adopt a resolution advocating for the <br />reinstatement of agreements between General Motors Corporation and Ben Mynatt <br />Chevrolet - Cadillac Dealership to help save jobs and reduce unemployment in <br />the county. Further, he commented on the tremendous job Ben Mynatt Chevrolet <br />has done for the community over the years. <br />Commissioner Mynatt expressed the need to recuse herself from the vote <br />due to her involvement with the dealership. She also announced the Chevrolet <br />dealership has 53 employees. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Mynatt, seconded by Commissioner Carruth <br />and unanimously carried, the Board voted to recuse Commissioner Mynatt from <br />voting on this item due to her involvement with Ben Mynatt Chevrolet. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Commissioner Carruth, <br />with Chairman White, Vice Chairman Poole, Commissioners Privette and Carruth <br />voting for and Commissioner Mynatt recused, the Board adopted the following <br />resolution: <br />Resolution No. 2010-02 <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE BEN MYNATT <br />CHEVROLET - CADILLAC DEALERSHIP'S APPEAL TO <br />GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION TO REINSTATE ITS <br />AGREEMENTS <br />11.70; <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County is dealing with a current unemployment rate of <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County has suffered the loss of jobs at Pillowtex, <br />Philip Morris and a number of banks; <br />WHEREAS, small and medium sized business are important to Cabarrus <br />County employing more than 75,000 people, and provide exceptional service to <br />customers and the community; <br />WHEREAS, the Mynatt family individually and through the Mynatt <br />automotive dealerships have a long and honorable history of service to <br />Cabarrus community for more than a generation providing good jobs to hundreds <br />of people with careers in automotive sales and service since the 1970s; <br />WHEREAS, one of the many services offered to the community is their <br />community breakfast at Christmas in the dealership's garage. This goodwill <br />gesture has become a wonderful tradition with significant meaning for people <br />in our community; <br />WHEREAS, losing the Chevrolet and Cadillac franchises would cause <br />approximately ninety eight people to lose their jobs, and create further <br />hardships on their families; and <br />WHEREAS, the reduction in property and sales tax revenues from the <br />Chevrolet -Cadillac dealership closing would place financial strain on the <br />County as a whole; and <br />WHEREAS, having an automotive dealership, like Ben Mynatt Chevrolet <br />Cadillac, that in addition to economically benefitting the community, works <br />diligently and selflessly to make the community a better place for its <br />citizens is a very rare combination and should be recognized as such. <br />NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Board of Commissioners of the <br />County of Cabarrus strongly advocates for the Ben Mynatt Chevrolet - Cadillac <br />dealership's appeal to General Motors Corporation to reinstate its <br />agreements, and urges General Motors Corp. to grant its request. <br />Adopted this 19th day of January 2010. <br />
