April 19, 2010 (Regular Meeting)
Page 1876
The following pictures include shots of various debris, exposed
power cables, logs etc. in our creeks, as well as a map of the
area.
What you can't see is the level of pollution in the water which I
was told by Department of Natural Resources in Mooresville in a
recent phone conversation is that Crosiers Creek is contaminated
and indeed on the federal list mandated to be cleaned up.
Our creek is polluted for feces and other chemicals at abnormally
high rates. It is my understanding that to be on this Federal
list the pollution has reached a severity level deemed
significant and precaution is needed when getting in or around
the creek water.
We understand that the CMUD/WSACC project will alleviate some of
the fecal matter by putting an upstream private water processing
plant online, however to what degree is guesswork. We need
solutions now. The creek has crested twice this winter and
topped off many more times this year breaking fences and moving
trash from the creek 30 feet and more into our yards. It's a
very concerning situation.
Crosiers Creek and Surrounding Creek Pollution
Solution
Cabarrus Woods
Victoria Park
Cabarrus County Commissioners meeting April 19th, 2010
Who: Our residents are invested financially and spiritually in
their neighborhood. They are willing to do whatever it
takes to get this cleanup project started and some day
completed however we need to utilize whatever resources
would be made available to us.
What: Formulate a plan with definite objectives and time
deadlines to get the creek pollution cleanup started.
Utilizing our residents, Dennis Testerman and any other
resources we can determine are viable. Regular
accountability meetings will be necessary on an ongoing
basis in our neighborhood watch meetings once a month with
follow up periodically in front of the County Commission
When: There is no time like the present to start now and
continue planning for the future. As conditions change
the original plan needs to be modified. Year round there
will be deadlines to be accomplished.
Where: The creeks, stream and springs in Cabarrus Woods and
Victoria Park Subdivision.
How: We need help immediately on how to go about cleaning the
debris out of the creeks. See attached list of possible
solutions.
Why: Water is our most valuable resource. Contaminated water
causes disease and sickness. Our children and pets need
to be safe in and around the water that runs through our
backyards. Water is here forever, we need to be the best
stewards of it as possible.
Crosiers Creek and Surrounding Creek Pollution
Possible Solutions
Cabarrus Woods
Victoria Park
Cabarrus County Commissioners meeting April 19th, 2010
Contact local universities, colleges and community colleges for
internship opportunities. Interning looks great on a resume.
The labor is free and usually very qualified. This should be an
ongoing program. It would also help retain qualified graduates
who already know our county issues and formulate interest in
those institutions.
