April 19, 2010 (Regular Meeting) Page 1903 <br />(G-7) A Resolution by Cabarrus County, North Carolina in Support of the <br />Cities of Concord and Kannapolis, North Carolina Bid to be Selected as a <br />Google "Fiber For Communities" Partner <br />Chairman White presented a request for a resolution by Cabarrus County <br />in support of the cities of Concord and Kannapolis bid to be selected as a <br />Google "Fiber for Communities" partner. He explained this has the potential <br />of increasing people's ability to access the Internet have a lot of <br />opportunities. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Vice Chairman Poole <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following resolution: <br />Resolution No. 2010-13 <br />A RESOLUTION BY CABARRUS COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA IN SUPPORT OF THE CITIES OF <br />CONCORD AND KANNAPOLIS, NORTH CAROLINA BID TO BE SELECTED AS A GOOGLE ~~FIBER <br />FOR COMMUNITIES" PARTNER <br />WHEREAS: Google recently announced plans to test ultra-high speed <br />broadband networks in one or more trial location across the country, and <br />seeks submittals from interested local governments by March 26, 2010; and <br />WHEREAS: Local businesses, organizations, and individuals have offered <br />their support to the cities of Concord and Kannapolis to become involved in <br />the project; and <br />WHEREAS: Ultra-high speed Internet service could create tremendous <br />benefits for the Concord/Kannapolis area of Cabarrus County including the <br />opportunity for economic development and job creation by providing the <br />increased technology capacity this would provide; and <br />WHEREAS: The technology would bring Cabarrus County Schools and the <br />Kannapolis City Schools greater educational opportunities to all our <br />students; and <br />WHEREAS: The access the ultra-high speed system would provide the <br />North Carolina Research Campus access to centers around the globe in a manner <br />required for collaboration and research: and <br />WHEREAS: The citizens of the area have voiced their support of the <br />application. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF CABARRUS <br />COUNTY THAT CABARRUS COUNTY WILL: <br />Enthusiastically support the Cities of Concord and Kannapolis in their <br />application to be selected as the Google "Fiber for Communities" project <br />site. <br />Adopted this the 19t'' day of April, 2010. <br />/s/ H. Jay White, Sr., Chairman <br />Board of Commissioners <br />ATTEST: <br />/s/ Kay Honeycutt <br />Kay Honeycutt, Clerk to the Board <br />(H) APPOINTMENTS <br />(H-1) Appointments - Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee <br />Karen Gabbert currently serves on the Nursing Home Community Advisory <br />Committee and desires reappointment. <br />UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Poole, seconded by Commissioner Mynatt and <br />unanimously carried, the Board reappointed Karen Gabbert to the Nursing Home <br />Community Advisory Committee for a three-year term ending April 30, 2013. <br />(H-2) Appointments - Criminal Justice Partnership Program (CJPP) <br />On February 15, 2010, Revella Nesbit (Mental Health/Ex Officio), Karen <br />King (Substance Abuse) and Sally Coleman (Victim Services) were reappointed <br />to the Criminal Justice Partnership Program (CJPP) for 3-year terms ending <br />February 28, 2013. For consistency with the other members' terms, it is <br />
