Sales Tax Refunds - Support legislation to allow public schools systems to regain access to sales tax refunds. (H) APPOINTMENTS (H -1) Appointments - Food Policy Council In April, the Board adopted a resolution establishing the Food Policy Council. Applications are being solicited through a number of media outlets and a small number of applications have been received thus far. It is important that appointments to the Council be made quickly since there is much work to be done. Chairman White suggested the Board review the list of recommended appointees provided in the handout. John Day, County Manager, advised the handout includes recommendations from him and the Chairman for the 21 positions including two (2) alternate positions. He stated the applicants cover a wide range of professions including the general public and gives an excellent representation for this council. He requested he be given administrative authority to set the terms in order to stagger them. Commissioner Carruth requested this item be tabled until the May 25 budget workshop to give the Board more time to review the applications. Chairman White expressed appreciation to everyone that submitted an application and commented on the difficulty in selecting 21 potential appointees from the applicant pool. UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Vice Chairman Poole and unanimously carried, the Board voted to table the appointments to the Food Policy Council until the May 25, 2010 budget workshop. (I) REPORTS (I -1) Tourism Authority - Report on Cabarrus County Tourism Authority's 3=d Quarter 2009/2010 Activities The Board received the report on Cabarrus County Tourism Authority's 3rd Quarter 2009/2010 Activities as part of the Agenda. No action was required of the Board. Chairman White advised at the last CVB meeting there was a unanimous vote to expand the board to twelve members. (I -2) Request for Applications for County Boards /Committees Chairman White urged citizens to consider serving on a County board or committee. He asked interested individuals to contact the Clerk at 704 -920- 2100 or to go to the County's website at www. cabarruscounty. us/ commissioners /boardsandcommittees and view information on the various County boards and committees. Applications are being accepted for the following County Boards /Committees: • Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee • Animal Protection and Preservation Advisory Committee • Centralina Workforce Development Board • Concord Planning and Zoning Commission (ETJ) • Criminal Justice Partnership Advisory Board • Food Policy Council • Harrisburg Fire Advisory Board • Industrial Facilities and Pollution Control Financing Authority • Juvenile Crime Prevention Council • Library Board of Trustees • Mt. Pleasant Planning Board and Board of Adjustment • Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee • Piedmont Area Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Authority • Planning and Zoning Commission
