The following issues were addressed: the perception of the term "no kill "; the adoptability of animals and establishment of standards; the categorization of animals into four (4) groups; the clarification of options before a formal commitment is made; the education of citizens on their responsibilities in pet ownership; the estimated cost and funding of the proposal; euthanasia - gas chamber vs. lethal injection; the membership /representation on the APPAC (Animal Protection & Preservation Advisory Committee); the possibility of creating a separate task force charged with investigation of a "no kill" shelter and other issues raised; etc. Additional information requested by Board members included the following: the development of a timeline and benchmarks to monitor progress; and a comparison of the current animal policy and the proposed changes. UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Vice Chairman Poole and unanimously carried, the Board voted to place Community Wide Adoption Program on the August 16, 2010 Agenda as a New Business item.
