April 21, 2008 (Regular Meeting) Page 789 <br />Kay Honeycutt, Clerk to the Board <br />(F-2) Proalamation Declaring April 2008 as Child Abuse Prevention Month <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Mynatt <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation: <br />Proclamation No. 2008-09 <br />CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH, APRIL 2008 <br />BY THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF THE CABARRUS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />A PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, children are our link to the future and our hope for a better <br />tomorrow; and <br />WHEREAS, we will look to our children for the vision, strength, <br />creativity, and leadership to guide our Community through the challenges of <br />the future; and <br />WHEREAS, we must provide our children with the nurturing, and <br />protection they need and deserve so they can realize their full potential, <br />develop character, and learn to be responsible citizens in an environment of <br />security and love; and <br />WHEREAS, many children are not safe, even in their own homes due to <br />their suffering neglect, harsh physical punishment, sexual abuse, or <br />psychological trauma; and <br />WHEREAS, childhood is a formative time, and abuse can have devastating <br />long-term effects on young lives; and <br />WHEREAS, keeping children safe is a shared community responsibility <br />that no one agency can conquer alone, and requires the inclusion of every <br />segment of society. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, H. Jay White, Sr., Chairman of the Cabarrus County <br />Board of Commissioners, applaud the efforts of the Cabarrus County Child <br />Victimization Council and Cabarrus County Department of Social Services and, <br />do hereby proclaim April 2008 as Child Abuse Prevention Month and call upon <br />all citizens to increase their participation in our efforts to support <br />families, renew our commitment to prevent child abuse and neglect, and <br />strengthen the communities in which we live. <br />/s/ H.
