July 7, 2008 (Work Session) Page 898 Brent Weisner, Tax Administrator, presented information related to the Tax Collector's Annual Settlement and Order authorizing collection of 2008 taxes. UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Mynatt and unanimously carried, the Board voted to place the Tax Collector's Annual Settlement and Order Authorizing Collection of 2008 Taxes on the July 21, 2008 Agenda as a Consent item. Tax Department - Write-off of Motor Vehicle Receivables Brent Weisner, Tax Administrator, reported the Tax Collector's Office has exhausted all means of collections on vehicle taxes due from March 2009 through February 2005 and requested the write-off for those uncollectable taxes. He reported that in the upcoming year, motor vehicle taxes that become 13 months past due will be turned in to an outside collection agency. UPON MOTION of Commissioner Mynatt, seconded by Commissioner Carruth and unanimously carried, the Board voted to place the Write-off of Motor Vehicle Receivables on the July 21, 2008 Agenda as a Consent item. Further, Mr. Weisner commended the Tax Collection staff for their diligence. He reported the following: the total tax collection rate this year is 98.35 percent; this year's tax collection is the highest rate achieved by the 'Tax Department; and this is the fifth consecutive year there has been an overall increase in tax collections. Overview of Property Tax Relief Programs Brent Weisner, Tax Administrator, presented an overview of the following property tax relief programs: the Present Use Value Program; the Elderly/Disabled Exclusion Program; and the Circuit Breaker Program. He also responded to a variety of questions from the Board regarding the following topics: the number of land parcels included in each program; the requirement for participation in each program; participation in each program as compared to other jurisdictions; etc. Additional Agenda Items Chairman White reviewed the following list of additional items for the July Agenda: Recognition & Presentations: None.
