October 20, 2008 (Regular Meeting) Page 1027 <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Vice Chairman Juba, <br />and carried with Chairman White, Vice Chairman Juba and Commissioners Carruth <br />and Mynatt voting for and Commissioner Privette voting against, the Board <br />approved the purchase of the Garrison property (Parcel ID# 5600815026) for <br />the New Northwest Area Middle school as stated in the Notice of Condemnation <br />and requested by the Cabarrus County Board of Education. The final price of <br />the land will be settled in the condemnation process. <br />SG-10) Sheriff's Office - Addition of Two Deputy Positions and Approval of <br />Staffing Study <br />Note: Item F-15 was removed from the Consent Agenda at the request of <br />Commissioner Privette. <br />Commissioner Privette expressed concern with the hiring of two new <br />deputies while other counties are putting a hiring freeze on new positions <br />due to the current economic situation. <br />Chairman White explained the new positions will allow time needed for <br />officers to check on sex offenders. <br />Commissioner Privette further expressed concern for hiring new <br />employees. <br />Commissioner Mynatt MOVED to establish two additional deputy positions, <br />approve staffing study and adopt the related budget amendment.
