October 20, 2008 (Regular Meeting) Page 1027 UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Vice Chairman Juba, and carried with Chairman White, Vice Chairman Juba and Commissioners Carruth and Mynatt voting for and Commissioner Privette voting against, the Board approved the purchase of the Garrison property (Parcel ID# 5600815026) for the New Northwest Area Middle school as stated in the Notice of Condemnation and requested by the Cabarrus County Board of Education. The final price of the land will be settled in the condemnation process. SG-10) Sheriff's Office - Addition of Two Deputy Positions and Approval of Staffing Study Note: Item F-15 was removed from the Consent Agenda at the request of Commissioner Privette. Commissioner Privette expressed concern with the hiring of two new deputies while other counties are putting a hiring freeze on new positions due to the current economic situation. Chairman White explained the new positions will allow time needed for officers to check on sex offenders. Commissioner Privette further expressed concern for hiring new employees. Commissioner Mynatt MOVED to establish two additional deputy positions, approve staffing study and adopt the related budget amendment. Commissioner Carruth seconded the motion. Commissioner Carruth stated this is to guide the future allocation of resources to meet staffing needs by having a staffing consultant take a look at what is actually needed in the Sheriff's Department. The MOTION carried with Chairman White, Vice Chairman Juba and Commissioners Carruth and Mynatt voting for and Commissioner Privette voting against.
