October 20, 2008 (Regular Meeting) <br />Page 1028 <br />Chairman White asked Commissioner Privette if he was requesting staff <br />to look for County positions and items that can be cut. Commissioner <br />Privette responded in the affirmative. <br />Chairman White requested the County Manager present and identify areas <br />that can be cut to help in these tough economic times. <br />Commissioner Mynatt further requested that the County Manager also look <br />for projects that can be moved forward or delayed. She clarified for the <br />public that this position is needed due to the separation of two departments <br />who shared one receptionist. <br />Commissioner Carruth referred to the following chart from the Agenda: <br />YEAR NO. WALK-INS <br />2005 9523 2682 <br />2006 9802 3000 <br />2007 5828 3266 <br />January-June, 2008 9165 1511 <br />He concluded by stating some veterans only have the Veteran's <br />Administration to turn to for medical care and that this position will allow <br />the Veteran's Officers to provide more time and services to these veterans. <br />Vice Chairman Juba stated she was personally offended when Commissioner <br />Privette compares Cabarrus County to other counties.
