The Water and Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County, the <br />Executive Director or his designee. <br />1.3 Abbreviations <br />(a) This ordinance is gender neutral and the masculine gender shall include <br />the feminine and vice-versa. Shall is mandatory; may is permissive or <br />discretionary. The use of the singular shall be construed to include the <br />plural and the plural shall include the singular as indicated by the <br />context of its use. <br />(b) The following abbreviations, when used in this ordinance, shall have the <br />designated meanings: <br />(1) BODS - Five (5) day Biochemical Oxygen Demand <br />(2) CFR - Code of Federal Regulations <br />(3) COD - Chemical Oxygen Demand <br />(4) DENR - Department of Environment and Natural Resources <br />(5) EPA - Environmental Protection Agency <br />(6) gpd - Gallons per day <br />(7) mgd - Million gallons per day <br />(8) mg/1 - Milligrams per liter <br />(9) NCAC - North Carolina Administrative Code <br />(10) N.C.G.S. - North Carolina General Statutes <br />(11) NH3 - Nitrogen Ammonia <br />(12) NOV - Notice of Violation <br />(13) NPDES - National Pollution Discharge Elimination System <br />(14) 0 & M - Operation and Maintenance <br />(15) POTW - Publicly Owned Treatment Works <br />(16) RCRA - Resource Conservation and Recovery Act <br />(17) SIC - Standard Industrial Classification <br />(16) SIU - Significant Industrial User <br />(19) SWDA - Solid Waste Disposal Act, 92 U.S.C. 6701, et. seq. <br />(20) TSS - Total Suspended Solids <br />(21) U.S.C. - United States Code <br />(22) WSACC - Water & Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County <br />SECTION 2 - GENERAL SEWER USE REQUIREMENTS <br />2.1 Prohibited Discharge Standards <br />(a) General Prohibitions. No user shall contribute or cause to be contributed <br />into the POTW, directly or indirectly, any pollutant or wastewater which <br />causes interference or pass through. These general prohibitions apply to <br />all users of the POTW whether or not the user is a SIO or subject to any <br />National, State, or local pretreatment standards or requirements. <br />(b) Specific Prohibitions. No user shall contribute or cause to be <br />contributed into the POTW the following pollutants, substances, or <br />wastewater: <br />(1) Explosive mixtures. A~ pollutant(s) which, either alone or by <br />interaction with an other pollutant(s), creates a fire or explosive <br />hazard in the POTW, including, but not limited to, waste streams <br />with a closed cup flashpoint of less than one hundred forty (140) <br />degrees Fahrenheit (sixty (60) degrees Celsius) using the test <br />methods specified in 40 CFR 261.21. <br />
