March 201 2006 - Regular Meeting

Page

545

Cabarrus County with honesty, integrity and sound business
intelligence. Tonight, I reiterate that commitment and I want to
publicly assure the people of Cabarrus County that I will
continue to uphold the high standards of conduct.

I also ask tonight that those who have sought to discredit me
start placing the interest of the people of Cabarrus County first
and your own personal political agendas second. I am taking my
"general comment" time to make sure that the public understands
the facts, all of which are documented by the Board of
Commissioner's meeting minutes, and other public records as well
as corporate documents within my business. I have gone over the
last three meetings (December, January and February) tapes of the
minutes of the meetings. I have gone over them and I have
documented word for word what I have said.

In November of 2004, 36,735 voters placed their trust in me to
serve our County's best interest. I have done nothing unethical,
dishonest or deliberately hurtful to anyone. Even so, blog
sites, a local website and one-on-one innuendo continue to
circulate and some under anonymous names. Most all the people
engaged in this behavior are a few former employees of my
business and their spouses and my political adversaries. It is
unfortunate that the true motive of these individuals has been an
attempt to discredit, falsely charge, misrepresent and defame me
personally and diminish my family business credibility.

From the jail project to the issue of immigration, I have faced
nothing but accusations, inferences, and obsessive attacks by
this small group of disgruntled individuals. As I have
mentioned, I have closely reviewed all the minutes of the
meetings, as well as, researched and documented the facts of all
my actions and my decisions. I am glad to share this information
with anyone who sincerely wants to know and understand the truth.

The sad part about all of this is that politically motivated
untruths and unfounded accusations by this group of individuals
has done nothing but paralyze the progress of this Board and our
County. Cabarrus County deserves leaders who can work as a team
and do what is right without personal agendas - a team that will
support our County for the future.

Cabarrus County deserves leaders who are not motivated by their
own personal needs, but only the desire to make us the best and
most innovative county in North Carolina. I feel that with all
the new business and education opportunities that we have, we are
well on our way to being prepared for the future and it is
exciting. We must approach these opportunities as a united team
by promoting our County with honest, professional, transparent
and positive leadership.

I will continue to listen to your comments and your opinions
regardless of my views.

I will continue to do all I can to make sure that I have accurate
information, the facts and expert counsel on all issues that are
brought before this Board as we have to make decisions and take
votes.

Lastly, I will make decisions which are best for the County as a
whole.

What I will not do is lower my standards by engaging in the
political and personal agendas of others. I will not participate
in a "tit-for-tat game" \\he said, she said" that accomplishes
nothing positive for this Board or our County.

In closing, I want to thank all of you who support me and who
continue to place your trust in me as your Commissioner. I do
not take this honor lightly.

I will continue to pledge my commitment of honest and integrity
and teamwork to the people of Cabarrus County. I ask that those
who seek to discredit me do the same. Thank you and good night.
