<br />May 1, 2006 - Agenda Work Session <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />Page <br /> <br />578 <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />Motorsports, one of <br />economy, creates and <br />Cabarrus County; and <br /> <br />significant segments <br />thousands of local <br /> <br />our <br />in <br /> <br />the mos t <br />sustains <br /> <br />of <br />jobs <br /> <br />Cabarrus County, the Center of American Motorsports, is the home <br />of Lowe's Motor Speedway, Concord Motorsport Park, the home of <br />legendary Dale Earnhardt and many racing-related businesses; and <br /> <br />The Cabarrus Region is <br />Teams, Racing Shops <br />industries; and <br /> <br />home to scores of NASCAR Drivers, Racing <br />and hundreds of other NASCAR related <br /> <br />The Nextel All Star race will have an economic impact on our <br />region in excess of $100 million dollars; and <br /> <br />Lowe's Motor Speedway hosts the annual Coca Cola 600 in May and <br />the annual Bank of America 500 race in October; and <br /> <br />Business Leaders, Elected Officials, and Racing Fans all believe <br />the heart and soul of NASCAR country is here; and <br /> <br />The NASCAR Research and Development facility is located here and <br />motorsports research is being conducted at UNC Charlotte and at <br />Rowan-Cabarrus Community College; and <br /> <br />Hundreds of thousands of race fans annually attend motorsports <br />events each year in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br />does hereby proclaim May 2006 \\Motorsports Month in Cabarrus County" in <br />recognition of the importance of the motorsports industry in our community <br />and throughout the region. <br /> <br />Adopted this l't day of May, 2006. <br /> <br />/s/ Robert W. Carruth, Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br /> <br />NASCAR All-Star Challenge Week - Proclamation <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Juba, seconded by Commissioner Privette <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Proclamation: <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County, the Center of American Motorsports, is home <br />to Lowe's Motor Speedway, the NASCAR Research and Development Center, many <br />top NASCAR teams including Hendrick Motorsports, Roush Racing, Chip Ganassi <br />Racing with Felix Sabates, Haas CNC Racing and Wood Brothers Racing, and <br />numerous motorsports-related businesses and attractions; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge is one of the largest and <br />most prestigious sporting events in the nation; and <br /> <br />2006 Nextel <br />County and <br /> <br />All-Star Challenge will <br />the surrounding region <br /> <br />economic <br />of $100 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the <br />impact on Cabarrus <br />million; and <br /> <br />have an <br />in excess <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the 22nd All-Star Challenge will be held at Lowe's Motor <br />Speedway on May 20, 2006, with a number of events during the week, including <br />a live performance by the Red Hot Chili Peppers between segments of the race, <br />a pre-race performance by Grammy award-winning rock group Train, and a pit <br />crew competition; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus Arena and Events Center will host practice drills of <br />the NASCAR NEXTEL pit Crew Challenge the week prior to race-week festivities; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, thousands of fans from North Carolina and across the United <br />States will join local residents in attending the race and related events; <br />and <br />
