October 30, 2006 (Regular Meeting) Page 143 <br />(F-13) Budget Amendment - Sheriff's Department (COPS 2006 Technology Grant <br />Receipt) <br />This budget amendment appropriates funds to be received from the US <br />Department of Justice for the COPS 2006 Technology Grant (2006-CKWX-0212). <br />These funds will be used to purchase portable and mobile 800mhz digital <br />radios to be used by the Sheriff's Office. These funds will be received on a <br />100 percent cost-reimbursement basis. A County match is not required for <br />this grant. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner <br />Privette and unanimously carried, the Board authorized the County Manager to <br />execute the COPS 2006 Technology Grant award documentation from the <br />Department of Justice and adopted the following budget amendment: <br />BUDGET REVISION/AMENDMENT REQUEST <br />DEPARTMENT OF SHERIFF'S OFFICE <br />AMOUNT: $197,446.00 <br />TYPE OF ADJUSTMENT: Supplemental Request <br />PURPOSE OF REQUEST: This budget amendment is to appropriate funds to be <br />received from the US Dept. of Justice for the COPS 2006 Technology Grant <br />(2006-CKWX-0212). These funds will be used to purchase portable and mobile <br />BOOmhz digital radios to be used by the Sheriff's Office. These funds will <br />be received on a 100 percent cost-reimbursement basis. United <br />Financial requests the Board confirm that Jackson Park Volunteer Fire <br />Department is a qualified volunteer fire department to protect a specific <br />fire district within this County and receives fire tax assessed on the real <br />property owners of their assigned fire protection district; and, that these <br />funds are to be used exclusively to provide equipment, facilities, training <br />and upgrade equipment as the need arises in order to provide fire protection <br />to their district. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner <br />Privette and unanimously carried, the Board authorized the Chairman to <br />execute the following letter to United Financial of North Carolina concerning <br />the lease purchase agreement between Jackson Park VFD and United Financial <br />for a pumper truck. <br />CABARRUS COUNTY <br />EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT <br />I am Chairman of the County Commissioners of Cabarrus County. <br />This letter is to advise you that: Jackson Park Volunteer Fire <br />Department, Inc. is a qualified Volunteer Fire Department, <br />assigned to protect a specific Fire District within this County. <br />In addition, a special ad valorem (fire tax) is assessed on the <br />real property owners of this district. Said tax is to be used <br />exclusively to provide equipment, facilities, and training as is <br />necessary to provide fire protection of said district. Said <br />funds may also be used to upgrade equipment as the need arises. <br />This tax is collected by the County and disbursed by the Finance <br />Officer to the Fire Department on a regular basis by the County <br />Finance Officer.
