Erwin Spainhour Senior Resident Superior Court Judge The reception ended at 6:30 p.m. (A) CALL TO ORDER ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING/RECESSED MEETING Chairman Carruth called the meeting to order at 6:47 p.m. (B) PRESENTATION OF COLORS 6 PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Page 188 The Color Guard of the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department conducted the flag ceremony and led the Pledge of Allegiance. INVOCATION Mr. Leon Hawkins, Pastor of Crosspointe Baptist Church and Chaplain for the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department, gave the invocation. (D) ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING Chairman Carruth turned the meeting over to Mike Downs, Deputy County Manager, who presided over the organization of the Board of Commissioners. (D-1) Election of Chairman Mr. Downs opened the floor for nominations for the position of Chairman. Vice Chairman Juba nominated Commissioner Carruth. Mr. Downs called for further nominations and hearing none, closed nominations. UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Juba, seconded by Commissioner White and unanimously carried, the Board elected Commissioner Carruth as Chairman of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners for 2007 by acclamation. Mr. Downs then turned the meeting over to Chairman Carruth. (D-2) Election of Vice Chairman Chairman Carruth opened the floor for nominations for the position of Vice Chairman. Commissioner Privette nominated Commissioner Mynatt. Chairman Carruth called for further nominations and hearing none, closed nominations. Commissioner Mynatt asked that her name be withdrawn from the nominations since it is her first year on the Board and stated she is not prepared to do the job at this time. Chairman Carruth removed Commissioner Mynatt's name from the nominations. Commissioner White nominated Commissioner Juba for the position of Vice Chairman. Chairman Carruth called for further nominations and hearing none, closed nominations. Commission Mynatt seconded the nomination. Commissioner Juba was elected as Vice Chairman of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners by acclamation. (G) APPROVAL OF BOND FOR SHERIFF BRAD RILEY Rich Koch, County Attorney, requested Item G. (Approval of Bond for Sheriff) be considered next. In accordance with NC General Statute 162.9, the County is required to approve a Public Officials Bond inthe amount of $25,000.00 for the Sheriff. UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Commissioner White and unanimously carried, the Board approved a $25,000.00 Public Officials Bond for the Cabarrus County Sheriff pursuant to NC General Statute 162.9.
