<br />March 21, 2005 (Regular Meeting) <br /> <br />Page <br /> <br />109 <br /> <br />(C) RECOGNITIONS AND PRESENTATIONS <br /> <br />(C-l) <br />School <br /> <br />Recognition of Sarah Trexler <br />Youth Volunteer for 2005 by the <br /> <br />on being Named the State's Top Middle <br />Prudential Spirit of Community Awards <br /> <br />Chairman Carpenter recognized Sarah Trexler on being named the State's <br />top middle school youth volunteer for 2005 by the Prudential Spirit of <br />Community Awards. To earn this honor, Miss Trexler made and sold pocketbooks <br />to benefit the patient treatment room at the Blume Presbyterian Pediatric <br />Cancer Clinic. <br /> <br />vice Chairman Carruth presented the following Proclamation to Sarah <br />Trexler. <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, citizen volunteers are one of the most valuable resources of <br />counties throughout the United States, with volunteers of all ages <br />contributing greatly to their local communities; and <br /> <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The prudential Spirit of Community Awards is <br />program conducted by prudential Financial in partnership with <br />Association of Secondary School Principals to honor young <br />outstanding acts of volunteerismj and <br /> <br />a nationwide <br />the National <br />people for <br /> <br />WHEREAS, more than 20,000 high school and middle level <br />considered for recognition in this year's awards program; and <br /> <br />students were <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Sarah Trexler, a sixth grade student at Harris Road Middle <br />School, has been named as North Carolina's top middle school youth volunteer <br />for 2005, in the 10th annual prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Sarah earned this prestigious honor by making and selling <br />pocketbooks and earrings and raising funds to buy games and supplies for the <br />patient treatment room at the Blume Presbyterian pediatric Cancer Clinic; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Sarah exemplifies the value of volunteer community service and <br />is a role model to other youth as well as the adults in our county. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby <br />commends Sarah Trexler on being named North Carolina's middle school youth <br />volunteer for 2005 by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, and <br />expresses sincere appreciation for her outstanding volunteer contribution to <br />others and our county. <br /> <br />This the 21" day of March, 2005. <br />/s/ Carolyn B. Senger Distinguished Dairy Farmer Award <br /> <br />Debbie Bost, Cooperative Extension Director, showed a video entitled <br />"Dairy Farm 2005 George L. Pless and Sons". She then presented a plaque to <br />Mr. Pless in recognition of being awarded the Marvin E. Senger Distinguished <br />Dairy Farmer Award by the N. C. State University Animal Science Department. <br /> <br />On behalf of the Board, Vice Chairman Carruth presented the following <br />Proclamation honoring George L. Pless, Sr. & Sons Dairy, Inc. <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Agriculture and agribusiness industries comprise $2.7 billion <br />or roughly 47 percent of the total county income; and approximately 23 <br />percent of the county's total employment is generated by agriculture and <br />agribusiness; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, George L. Pless Sr. and Sons Dairy Inc. is one of Cabarrus <br />County's oldest farming operations with the family farm dating back to 1760; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, George L. Pless Sr. and Sons Dairy Inc. is the 2005 recipient <br />of the Marvin E. Senger Distinguished Dairy Farmer Award, presented to a <br />
