Pless Sr. and Sons Dairy Inc. was named a Century <br />Farm Family by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, George Pless, his sons Jerry and John Pless and his grandsons <br />David Pless and Tim Sifford together manage a herd of 220 milk cows and 195 <br />calves and heifers and grow silage, hay, barley, corn grain and soybeans; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The Pless Dairy was one of the first dairy farms in North <br />Carolina to use futures options to minimize the financial risk of adverse <br />price swings within the industry, and they shared their methods and success <br />model with other dairy farmers across the region. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board <br />congratulates George L. Pless Sr. and Sons Dairy <br />achievement and wishes them many more years of <br />producer in Cabarrus County. <br /> <br />of Commissioners hereby <br />Inc. for this significant <br />success as an agriculture <br /> <br /> <br />Adopted this 21st day of March, 2005. <br />/s/ Carolyn Carpenter <br />Carolyn Carpenter, Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br /> <br />(C-3) Proclamation - Mental Retardation Awareness Month (March) <br /> <br />Vice Chairman Carruth, <br />Health Authority, read a <br />Retardation Awareness Month." <br /> <br />Commissioner Member of the piedmont Area Mental <br />Proclamation designating April as "Mental <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Chairman Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner Privette <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Proclamation. <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, mental retardation is a condition which affects more than 7 <br />million Americans and their families; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, public awareness and education enhance a community's <br />understanding of the issues affecting people with mental retardation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, people with mental retardation can be vital and vibrant <br />members of our communities, improving the quality of life for all of us; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the month of March has been designated National Mental <br />Retardation Awareness Month, with 100,000 members and 900 chapters of The Arc <br />undertaking public awareness, educational, and fundraising initiatives; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br />volunteer-based <br />retardation and <br /> <br />The Arc of the United States is the nation's <br />organization advocating for and with people with <br />related developmental disabilities and their families; <br /> <br />leading <br />mental <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The Arc of Cabarrus County has served the citizens of our area <br />for over 50 years, providing advocacy, education, support, and social <br />activities for persons with mental retardation and other developmental <br />disabilities throughout Cabarrus County. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners does hereby <br />proclaim March 2005 as <br /> <br />MENTAL RETARDATION AWARENESS MONTH <br /> <br />in Cabarrus County and urge the citizens of this county to give full support <br />of efforts toward enabling people with mental retardation to live full and <br />productive lives of inclusion in our communities. <br /> <br />This the 21st day of March 2005. <br />/s/ Carolyn B.
