<br />May 23, 2005 - Regular Meeting <br /> <br />Page <br /> <br />183 <br /> <br />(G-2) <br />Potato <br /> <br />Road Name Change - Petition (C2005-05) to Name an Easement off Irish <br />Road to Irish Potato Road Extension - Public Hearing - 6.30 p.m. <br /> <br />(G-3) Road Name Change Petition (C2005-06) for a Previously Named <br />Easement (Talbert Farm Road/Talbert Farm Place) to be Left Unnamed - Public <br />Hearing - 6.30 p.m. <br /> <br />Kassie Goodson, Planner, reported that earlier this year Emergency <br />Management staff had requested that official names be given to two unnamed <br />easements off Irish Potato Road due to difficulty in responding to emergency <br />calls on that road. She stated the Board held a public hearing on February <br />21 and named the easements "Talbert Farm Road" and "Talbert Farm Place". <br />Since that time, some residents have expressed opposition to the new road <br />names. Two petitions have been submitted to rename the easement as "Irish <br />Potato Road Extension" or to .leave the easement unnamed. Me. Goodson <br />recommended that the public hearing on the two petitions be opened at the <br />same time. In regards to Petition C200S-05, Ms. Goodson reported that staff <br />recommended that the easement have an official name that does not include the <br />word "extension". She explained the use of "extension" would not solve the <br />problems for E911 purposes and recommended that the residents choose a unique <br />road name. In regards to Petition C2005-06 that requested the road be left <br />unnamed, Ms. Goodson stated staff did not recommend that the easement be left <br />unnamed and again recommended that the residents come to an agreement on a <br />name that is unique. <br /> <br />Bobby Smith, Emergency Management Director, reported that <br />with the Rimer Volunteer Fire Department had requested the easement <br />He explained that the mailboxes on the easement are addressed <br />Potato Road, thus making it difficult to locate residences. <br /> <br />officials <br />be named. <br />off Irish <br /> <br />Chief Earl Rahme of the Rimer Volunteer Fire Department stated the road <br />name request was a 911 issue. He said there were 11 calls on the road for the <br />period January 1, 2004 to May 23, 2005. He <br />explained the problems with "extensions" and also pointed out that no one <br />spoke in opposition to the proposed names (Talbert Farm Road and Talbert Farm <br />Place) at the meeting in February. He suggested that the Board table the <br />matter until a meeting could be scheduled with the residents. <br /> <br />Mr. Barnhardt stated the eight houses on the easement could be seen <br />from Irish Potato Road. He also requested that "private drive" be included on <br />the street name signs. <br /> <br />There was no one else to address the Board, and Chairman Carpenter <br />closed the public hearing at 8:15 p.m. <br /> <br />Chairman Carpenter reported she had received three calls from area <br />residents with concerns about the road name. <br /> <br />At the request of a member of the audience, Chairman Carpenter reopened <br />the public hearing at 8:16 p.m. <br />
