Need for more flexibility to make innovative county programs work <br /> <br />The Board took a short recess for dinner. <br /> <br />After dinner I there was discussion about the issues/challenges that <br />were presented by the agency representatives. Key issues identified by the <br />Board included the following: Addressing community needs of Hispanic/Latino <br />population; Close the achievement gap; Importance of healthy families; and <br />problems associated with substance abuse. <br /> <br />In conclusion, Mr. Boyle stated the discussion on Saturday would focus <br />on what the Board's role should be in addressing the community wide issues <br />that had been identified. He asked Board members to think about what they <br />would like the County to achieve in addressing those issues. <br /> <br />Recess of Meeting <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner privette, seconded by Vice Chairman Carruth <br />and unanimously carried, the meeting was recessed at 7:33 p.m. until 9:00 <br />a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2005, in the Helms Dining Hall at Camp Spencer. <br /> <br />J~ j.,/?J~ <br /> <br />Clerk to the Board <br />
