Methods: Programs such as "Healthy Lives Healthy Futures"; <br />"Winner's Circle"; Regional Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention <br />Program; and School Health Advisory Council. <br /> <br />Cabarrus County Senior Center <br /> <br />Mike Murphy, Director of Aging, presented information regarding the <br />Senior Center and "The Age Wave". He highlighted the following: <br /> <br />. Projected Older Adult Growth in Cabarrus County <br />. Baby boomers entering retirement with major impact on Aging <br />network; <br />. "At risk" and "high riskll older adults <br />. North Carolina ranks 6th in United States in net migration of older <br />adults, 65 and older <br />. July 2005 - 22,567 60+ in Cabarrus County; 4l,583 baby boomers (40 <br />- 59) <br />. Coordination of work with the Health Alliance and Social Services <br /> <br />Cabarrus County Board of Education <br /> <br />Dr. Harold Winkler, Cabarrus County Schools Superintendent, discussed <br />the future challenges and issues facing the Cabarrus County Schools. He <br />addressed the following items during his presentation: <br /> <br />. Changing Demographics <br />. Increase in Hispanic Population <br />. Increase in At-risk population <br />. Title I schools <br /> <br /> <br />. Workforce that Draws Jobs to Cabarrus County / Workforce Development <br />Issues <br />. Graduation Rate/Drop-Out Rate <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Health Care Issues <br />. Nurses in Schools, Community Health Care Center, Dental Care <br />Medical care, Mental Health Care; transportation and affordable <br />child care <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Competitive Pay: Local Salary Supplement Comparisons <br /> <br />After completion of the presentations, Board members and agency <br />officials briefly discussed the following items: the impact of demographic <br />challenges; how the agencies interact around different populations; decrease <br />in State funding for various program; and the need to find a common solution <br />for the cross-cutting issues. <br /> <br />The representatives from the various agencies left the meeting at 4:30 <br /> <br />p.m. <br /> <br />Board Discussion <br /> <br />Mr. Boyle led the Board in a group discussion that centered on the <br />following issues: <br /> <br />. ~ounty growth and impact on needs and the at risk population <br />. The increasing number of baby boomers <br />. Economic Development/Education <br />. Increase in the Hispanic population / immigration laws <br />. A Single entry point for human services <br />
