<br />November 17, 2005 - Recessed Meeting <br /> <br />Page <br /> <br />394 <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of vice Chairman Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Privette <br />and unanimously carried, the Board agreed to provide a contribution to <br />piedmont Preservation Foundation in an amount not to exceed $4,000.00 for the <br />purpose of removing trees to facilitate the moving of the Cline and Propst <br />houses, and authorized the appropriate budget amendment appropriating the <br />funds from Contingency. <br /> <br />Ms. Magaldi stated that additional time was needed to move the houses <br />due to the delay in finalizing the contract. Grading would also be necessary <br />prior to moving the houses to their new location. <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Chairman Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner Privette <br />and unanimously carried, the Board agreed to extend the time for piedmont <br />Preservation Foundation to move the houses until January I, 2006. <br /> <br />Letter of Endorsement <br /> <br />Chairman Carpenter reported that the Cabarrus Health Alliance <br />applying for a State grant to support adolescent parenting services <br />Medicaid eligible students at Concord High School and A. L. Brown <br />School. A letter of endorsement was requested for the grant application. <br /> <br />was <br />for <br />High <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Carruth, seconded by Chairman Carpenter <br />and unanimously carried, the Board authorized the Chairman to execute a <br />letter to the N. C. Department of Health and Human Services supporting the <br />Cabarrus Health Alliance and their proposal to strengthen Adolescent <br />Parenting Services in Cabarrus County. <br /> <br />Award of Demolition Contract <br /> <br />John Day, County Manager, reported that Turner Construction, the <br />County's Construction Manager at Risk, received bids on November 10 f 2005, <br />for the demolition portion of the Law Enforcement Center project. Since the <br />County does not yet have a contract with Turner, he stated the County would <br />need to hold the contract for the demolition work. Turner Construction has <br />recommended the award of the demolition contract to the low bidder, piedmont <br />wrecking & Grading Company, Inc. The bids were as follows: <br /> <br /> Company Base Bid <br />piedmont Grading $198,000.00 <br />Big Dog Demolition No Bid <br />United Maintenance Group $198,709.99 <br />Starnes Trucking No Bid <br />D. H. Griffin $230,100.00 <br />P. I.E. Demolition $273,525.00 <br />AD Environmental Asbestos Sub. <br />LVI $220,400.00 <br />A White Services $209,541. 00 <br /> <br />There was <br />application that <br />the award of the <br /> <br />discussion regarding the rezoning and conditional use <br />is pending with the City of Concord, whether to proceed with <br />demolition contract at this time and delay of the project. <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Juba and <br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the following budget amendments in <br />the amount of $208,000.00 ($198,000.00 for contract and five percent <br />contingency); awarded the demolition contract to piedmont Wrecking & Grading <br />Company, Inc. in the amount of $198,000.00; and authorized the County <br />Attorney and County Manager to review and execute the contract. <br /> <br />BUDGET REVISION/AMENDMENT REQUEST <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT: Finance (Law Enforcement Construction Fund) <br />TYPE OF ADJUSTMENT: Supplemental Request <br />PURPOSE: To appropriate funds for the demolition contract in the amount of <br />$208,000 inclusive of a 5% contingency.
