April 30, 2003 Page 115 <br /> <br />for NC 73, to establish right-of-way protection methods and to limit access <br />to maintain the function of NC 73. <br /> <br />(III-B) North Carolina Moving Ahead <br /> <br /> Mr. Lentz presented the North Carolina Moving Ahead initiative in which <br />Governor Mike Easley is proposing to spend $700 million over a two-year <br />period to upgrade roads statewide. These funds are in addition to funds <br />allocated by the equity formula. The purpose of the initiative is to provide <br />funds for maintenance, modernization and public transportation. Mr. Lentz <br />reviewed the following priority list of projects for Cabarrus County. <br /> <br />Rocky River Road (SR 1139) <br />Widen travel lanes and add wide shoulder from each of the Brookdale <br />Project to Highway 49. Intersection improvements at Robinson Church <br />Road, Hickory Ridge Road, Stallings Road, Center turn lane between <br />Lower Rocky River Road and Pharr Mill Road and Archibald Road. <br /> <br />1-85 / Poplar Tent Road (SR 1394) <br />Improve interchange with turn lanes and signals. <br />run between Goodman Road to Pitt School road. <br /> <br />Improvement should <br /> <br />North Carolina Highway 73 <br />Turn lane improvements for the following intersections: Poplar Tent <br />Road/Stanley McElrath Road (SR 2424/2423) realign and improve with turn <br />lanes at all quadrants in conjunction with the Riverpointe project <br />improvements; Irish Potato Road; and St. Johns Church Road <br /> <br />4 0 <br /> <br />Poplar Tent Road (SR 1394) <br />Widen travel lanes and wide shoulders from NC 73 to US 29/601. <br />Add turn lanes at: Cox Mill Road; Rock Hill Church Road; Groff Street. <br /> <br />50 <br /> <br />Odell School Road (SR ) <br />Widen travel lanes and add wide shoulder from NC 3 to Poplar Tent Road. <br /> <br />Miami Church Road (SR 1183) <br />Widen travel lanes and add wide shoulder from US 601 to Mount Pleasant <br />Road South. <br />Add turn lanes at Cold Springs Road. <br />Improve site distance at Mount Pleasant Road South. <br /> <br />70 <br /> <br />Zion Church Road / Zion Church Road East (SR 1153) <br />Widen travel lanes and add wide shoulder from US 601 to Flowes Store <br />Road. <br /> <br />Robinson Church road (SR 1168) <br />Widen travel lanes and add wide shoulder from Highway 49 to Mecklenburg <br />County. <br /> <br />Cox Mill Road (SR 1488) <br />Widen travel lanes and add wide shoulder along entire route. <br /> <br />10. <br /> <br />Harris Road (SR 1449) <br />Widen travel lanes and add wide shoulder from Mecklenburg County to <br />Odell School Road. <br /> <br />11. <br /> <br />Neisler Road (SR 2404) <br />Widen travel lanes, add wide shoulder and turn lanes from Salisbury- <br />Concord Road to Gold Hill Road. <br /> <br />12. <br /> <br />Stallings Road (SR 1161) <br />Raise elevation of road bed above flood elevation - between Fuda Creek <br />and Back Creek <br /> <br />In addition, Mr. Lentz will prepare a list of dangerous intersections, <br />including Miami Church Road at Mount Pleasant Road South and Irish Potato <br />Road at Sapp Road. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Commissioner <br />Carpenter and unanimously c~rried, the Board authorized Chairman Freeman to <br />write a letter in support of the priority list of projects for Cabarrus <br />County as prepared by Rodger Lentz for the North Carolina Moving Ahead <br />Initiative. <br /> <br /> <br />
