<br /> Ms. Jill Brim, Engineer with Concord Surveying and Engineering, Inc.,
<br />reviewed the bids and the proposed design for the Midway and RV areas. She
<br />responded to questions regarding the difference in cost for asphalt and
<br />concrete paving and the pros and cons of each.
<br />
<br /> Vice Chairman Suggs made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Privette,
<br />to award the general construction contract for the Midway and Alternate No. 3
<br />and the RV Area improvements at the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center to the
<br />low bidder, Granite Contracting, in the amount of $792,622.25.

<br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Privette
<br />and unanimously carried, the Board approved an amendment to the motion by
<br />Vice Chairman Suggs to authorize the County Attorney and County Manager to
<br />execute the contract with Granite Contracting.
<br />
<br /> UPON MO?ION of Vice Chairman Suggs, seconded by Commissioner Privette
<br />and unanimously carried, the Board awarded the general construction contract
<br />for the Midway and Alternate Number 3 and RV Area improvements at the
<br />Cabarrus Arena and Events Center to the low bidder, Granite Contracting, in
<br />the amount of $792,622.25, and authorized the County Attorney and County
<br />Manager to complete and execute the necessary contract.

<br /> Mr. Jonathan Marshall, Planning Services Director, reviewed the bids
<br />for the electrical work for the Midway and RV area that were solicited
<br />through the informal bid process. He said it was staff's recommendation that
<br />the County contract for the base work for the Midway and RV area along with
<br />the additional wiring included in Alternate Number E-1. Mr. Marshall
<br />reported that the two companies, Port City Electric and E. F. Belk & Son,
<br />that bid on the work have notified staff of errors in their bids. Port
<br />City's error was on Alternate E-2, while the errors by E. F. Belk & Sons were
<br />on Alternates E-1 and E-2. Correction of these errors makes E. F. Belk the
<br />low bidder for the base work along with the additional wiring included in
<br />Alternate E-1.
