<br />(E-4) Authorization for 4-H SOS Goldminers to Submit Grant Application to
<br />Speedway C~ildren's Charities and Philip Morr%s PositiVe Youth Development
<br />Initiative
<br />
<br /> The 4-H SOS Goldminers is seeking grant funds from various agencies to
<br />extend the after school programs at Mount Pleasant and Concord Middle Schools
<br />for students who are "latchkey kids" and who can benefit from close
<br />interaction, assistance and guidance with adults interested in their success.
<br />No County matching funds are required.
<br />
<br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Commissioner Carruth
<br />and unanimously carried, the Board authorized the 4-H SOS Goldminers to apply
<br />for grants from the Speedway Children's Charities and the Philip Morris
<br />Positive Youth Development Initiative to extend the after school programs at
<br />Mount Pleasant and Concord Middle Schools.

<br />(E-5) Acknowledgement of .Approval of Contracts by the Cabarrus County Board
<br />of Educati'on for Construction of Bethel Elementar~ and Pitts Elementar~
<br />Schools
<br />
<br /> On June 24, 2003, the Cabarrus County Board of Education approved
<br />contracts for construction of two new schools, Bethel Elementary and Pitts
<br />School Road Elementary. The contracts were awarded based on a package to
<br />build both schools to the lowest responsible bidder, Welliver McGuire
<br />(general contractor). The contract includes site work, construction of the
<br />building and a sports complex at each facility: Bethel Elementary -
<br />$8,708,650.00 (includes sports complex); and Pitts School Road -
<br />$10,383,150.00 (includes site work and sports complex). Certificates of
<br />Participation to be issued this month will finance the school construction
<br />costs.

<br />and unanimously carried, the Board acknowledged and affirmed the Cabarrus
<br />County Board of Education's approval of the contracts for the construction of
<br />Bethel Elementary ($8,708,650.00) and Pitts Elementary ($10,383,150.00).

<br />(E-6) Ackn0~ledgement of Approval of Contracts by the ~annaPolis Board of
<br />Education for Cohstruction of the New Kannapolis Middle School and Additions
<br />at Fred L. Wilson and Shady B~ook Elementar~ Schools
<br />
<br /> On June 23, 2003, the Kannapolis City Board of Education approved
<br />contracts for the construction of two elementary school additions and one new
<br />middle school. Bids were received and opened for the additions at Fred L.
<br />Wilson Elementary and Shady Brook Elementary on June 12, 2003. RJ Fisher
<br />Construction and Jarrell Contractors, Inc. were the lowest responsible single
<br />prime bidders. On June 19, 2003, bids were received for the new Kannapolis
<br />Middle School. The contracts were approved as a multi-prime project with
<br />Lechase Construction Services, LT Mechanical and Lake Electric as iow
<br />bidders.
