Also, Mr. Bennett <br />recognized Ms. Dubois and Ms. Fearrington for earning the designation of <br />Certified Public Finance Officer as awarded by the GFOA. <br /> <br /> The Board commended Ms. Dubois and Ms. Fearrington on their <br />accomplishments. <br /> <br />Recognition of Chasity Stoker for being Named the Local 2002 Young Careerist <br />by the Concord-Cabarrus Business and Professional Women's Organization <br /> <br /> Mr. Mike Murphy, Director of Aging, recognized Ms. Chasity Stoker, <br />Aging Programs Coordinator for the Department of Aging, for being named the <br />local 2002 Young Careerist by the Concord-Cabarrus Business and Professional <br />Women's Organization. On behalf of the Board, he presented a Certificate of <br />Recognition to Ms. Stoker. <br /> <br /> The Board congratulated Ms. Stoker on her designation as the local 2002 <br />Young Careerist. <br /> <br />Recognition of County Departments Receiving N. C. Department of Labor Safety <br />Awards for 2001 <br /> <br /> Mr. Don Cummings, Human Resources Director, reported that the following <br />departments had recently received North Carolina Department of Labor Safety <br />Awards: First Year - Board of Elections, County Manager's Office, Parks and <br />Recreation, Soil and Water Conservation, Solid Waste and Recycling and <br />Veterans Service; Second Year - Aging, Register of Deeds, Planning Services; <br />Third Year - Tax Administration; and Fifth~ Year - Finance and Information <br />Technology Services. <br /> <br />Proclamation - National Safety Month in Cabarrus County (June 2002) - Vice <br />Chairman Carruth <br /> <br /> Vice Chairman Carruth commented on the need for increased safety <br />awareness and the impact of accidents. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Fennel <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Proclamation. <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the County of Cabarrus wishes'to join with the National Safety <br />Council in the annual observance of National Safety Month during June, 2002; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the theme for this observance is ~Prepare Today." This theme <br />draws attention to raising safety awareness in regards to home, community, <br />and workplace safety. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, each week during the month, a different area of safety <br />awareness will be emphasized: <br /> <br />· June 2-8 <br />· June 9-15 <br />· June 16-22 <br /> <br />· June 23-29 <br /> <br />Teen Driving & Child Safety Seat Week <br />Preventing Falls in the Home Week <br />Individual & Organizational Emergency <br />Preparedness Week <br />Workplace Safety Week <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, accidents and incidents which occur as a result of unsafe acts <br />and conditions in the US disrupt thousands of lives each year, and according <br />to statistics provided by the National Safety Council, American Society of <br />Safety Engineers, and other safety organizations, there is a direct <br />relationship between increased safety awareness and reduced accident & <br />incident rates. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Cabarrus County Board 'of Commissioners do <br />hereby proclaim the month of June as National Safety Month in Cabarrus County <br />and: <br /> <br />· Urge every individual to take extra precautions and become more <br /> safety conscious every day; <br /> <br /> <br />
