Also, Mr. Bennett recognized Ms. Dubois and Ms. Fearrington for earning the designation of Certified Public Finance Officer as awarded by the GFOA. The Board commended Ms. Dubois and Ms. Fearrington on their accomplishments. Recognition of Chasity Stoker for being Named the Local 2002 Young Careerist by the Concord-Cabarrus Business and Professional Women's Organization Mr. Mike Murphy, Director of Aging, recognized Ms. Chasity Stoker, Aging Programs Coordinator for the Department of Aging, for being named the local 2002 Young Careerist by the Concord-Cabarrus Business and Professional Women's Organization. On behalf of the Board, he presented a Certificate of Recognition to Ms. Stoker. The Board congratulated Ms. Stoker on her designation as the local 2002 Young Careerist. Recognition of County Departments Receiving N. C. Department of Labor Safety Awards for 2001 Mr. Don Cummings, Human Resources Director, reported that the following departments had recently received North Carolina Department of Labor Safety Awards: First Year - Board of Elections, County Manager's Office, Parks and Recreation, Soil and Water Conservation, Solid Waste and Recycling and Veterans Service; Second Year - Aging, Register of Deeds, Planning Services; Third Year - Tax Administration; and Fifth~ Year - Finance and Information Technology Services. Proclamation - National Safety Month in Cabarrus County (June 2002) - Vice Chairman Carruth Vice Chairman Carruth commented on the need for increased safety awareness and the impact of accidents. UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Fennel and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Proclamation. PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the County of Cabarrus wishes'to join with the National Safety Council in the annual observance of National Safety Month during June, 2002; and WHEREAS, the theme for this observance is ~Prepare Today." This theme draws attention to raising safety awareness in regards to home, community, and workplace safety. WHEREAS, each week during the month, a different area of safety awareness will be emphasized: · June 2-8 · June 9-15 · June 16-22 · June 23-29 Teen Driving & Child Safety Seat Week Preventing Falls in the Home Week Individual & Organizational Emergency Preparedness Week Workplace Safety Week WHEREAS, accidents and incidents which occur as a result of unsafe acts and conditions in the US disrupt thousands of lives each year, and according to statistics provided by the National Safety Council, American Society of Safety Engineers, and other safety organizations, there is a direct relationship between increased safety awareness and reduced accident & incident rates. NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Cabarrus County Board 'of Commissioners do hereby proclaim the month of June as National Safety Month in Cabarrus County and: · Urge every individual to take extra precautions and become more safety conscious every day;
