Freeman, Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br /> <br />OLD BUSINESS <br /> <br />Expo Project Update <br /> <br /> Mr. Mark Chappuis, Expo General Manager, introduced Ms. Kim Schoen who <br />has been hired as the Marketing Specialist for the Cabarrus Arena and Events <br />Center at the Expo Park. <br /> <br /> Ms. Schoen expressed her excitement about the Expo Center and working to <br />ensure the success of the facility. <br /> <br /> Mr. Chappuis reported that a number of events have been confirmed for <br />the facility, including the Chamber Business Expo, a Christmas show, church <br />services (each Sunday for six months), a cat show and a gun/knife/ <br />collectibles show. Leases are pending on a number of other activities. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ann Sternal, Executive Director of the Cabarrus Convention and <br />Visitor's Bureau, spoke in support of the Expo and the various types of <br />events planned at the facility. She commented on the impact that the Expo <br />will have on lodging and other 'businesses in the area and the prospects of <br />bringing sports tourism to Cabarrus County. According to Ms. Sternal, the <br />Expo will enhance Cabarrus County's appeal as a "leisure" destination. <br /> <br /> Mr. Mike Downs, Public Safety Services Director, gave an update on <br />construction at the Expo. Work continues on the buildings and grass has been <br />planted on approximately 25 acres, including the midway area. Bids will be <br />received in early June for the widening of Old Airport Road at the Expo. <br /> <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br /> <br /> Commissioner Fennel asked that Item 7 (Authorization for the County <br />Attorney to Proceed with the Condemnation Process to Acquire Two Sight <br />Easements on Old Airport Road) be removed from the Consent Agenda for <br />discussion. <br /> <br />Resolution Desi~nating Mike Downs as the County's Agent to the State and <br />Federal Emergency Management Agency for All Matters Pertaining to Federal <br />Disaster Assistance <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Commissioner Fennel <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Resolution. <br /> <br />Resolution No. 2002-15 <br /> <br />Designation of Applicant's Agent <br /> RESOLUTION <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY Board of Commissioners of Cabarrus County, N. C. that Mike <br />Downs, Emergency Management Coordinator, is hereby authorized to execute for <br />and in behalf of Cabarrus County, a public entity established under the laws <br />of the State of North Carolina, this application and to file it in the <br />appropriate State office for the purpose of obtaining certain financial <br />assistance under the Disaster Relief Act (Public Law 288, 93rd Congress) or <br />otherwise available from the President Disaster Relief Fund. <br /> <br />That Cabarrus County, a public entity established under the laws of the State <br />of North Carolina, hereby authorizes its agent to provide to the State and to <br />the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for all matters pertaining to <br />such Federal disaster assistance the assurance and agreements printed on the <br />reverse side hereof. <br /> <br /> <br />
