On behalf of Mr. Clifton, Mr. Marshall presented the <br />County Manager's Award of Excellence and a check to Ms. Storey: <br /> <br /> Board members congratulated Ms. Storey on her award and thanked her for <br />her service to Cabarrus County. <br /> <br />Recognition of Todd Culp for Securinq Level III Certifications in Building~ <br />Electrical~ Fire~ Mechanical and Plumbing Trades <br /> <br /> Mr. Mike Downs, Development Services Director, recognized Mr. Todd <br />Culp, Code Enforcement Officer, on securing Level III Certifications in the <br />Building, Electrical, Fire, Mechanical and Plumbing Trades. This is the top <br />level .in all trades and requires the successful completion of 15 four-hour <br />exams. <br /> <br /> On behalf of the Board, Vice Chairman Carruth presented a Certificate <br />of Outstanding Achievement to Mr. Culp. <br /> <br /> Board members commended Mr. Culp on his certifications and thanked him <br />for his service to Cabarrus County. <br /> <br />United Way 2001 Campaign and Red Cross Fund Raiser Report <br /> <br /> Mr. Don Cummings, Human Resources Director, reported the Cabarrus <br />County Employee United Way Campaign for 2001 raised $24,215.00. This was a <br />10.8 percent increase over the 2000 campaign with employee participation at <br />51.7 percent. Ms. Christine Marlowe (Human Resources) and Ms. Abbie Brandt <br />(Finance) served as co-chairs for this year's campaign. In addition, County <br />employees responded to the September 11, 2001 tragedies by raising $2,627.02 <br />for the Red Cross and publicizing local Blood Drives. Ms, Renee Long <br />(Development Services) coordinated the campaign for the Red Cross <br />contributions. <br /> <br />Proclamation - Convoy of Hope Day (November 17~ 2001) <br /> <br /> Chairman Fennel reported the Convoy of Hope organization brings <br />together local churches in service to the poor and needy, including food <br />distributions, dental services, doctor services, etc. He asked everyone to <br />be involved in the special event to be held at the County. Fairgrounds on <br />November 17, 2001. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Vice Chairman Carruth <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Proclamation, which <br />was read by Chairman Fennel. <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS: <br /> <br />The Convoy of Hope is a nonprofit organization founded to assist <br />churches in reaching out to the lost and hurting in their <br />community. They work with local organizations and churches to feed <br />the hungry and make sure all those who come are cared for and <br />loved, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: <br /> <br />At the event, they seek to meet the physical and spiritual needs of <br />each guest and encourage local churches and groups to continue <br />reaching out to people in their community, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: <br /> <br />Their mission is to unite and mobilize local churches across <br />denomin'ational, racial and socioeconomic lines to help those in <br />need by combining the distribution of nutritious food with <br />Christian ministry in a festive atmosphere, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: <br /> <br />The purpose is to bring together thousands of Christian volunteers, <br />churches, civic organizations, and businesses across the United <br />States to assist families in need, <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, we the Board of Commissioners of Cabarrus County, North <br />Carolina, proclaim November 17, 2001, as <br /> CONVOY OF HOPE DAY <br />in Cabarrus County. We urge all citizens to use this occasion to come <br />together and help families in need. <br /> <br />Given under my hand and seal this 22nd day of October 2001. <br /> <br /> <br />
