319 <br /> <br /> CABARRUS COUNTY BOA/~D OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> PROCLAMATION <br />Hurricane Floyd and Hurricane Irene Relief Day <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Hurricane Floyd and Hurricane Irene caused widespread <br />devastation in eastern North Carolina in September and October, 1999; and <br /> WHEREAS, the record-high floodwaters from Hurricane Floyd forced tens <br />of thousands of people from their homes; and <br /> WHEREAS, many people lost everything - their homes, their farms, their <br />businesses and their loved ones; and <br /> WHEREAS, there has been a generous outpouring of support from <br />throughout North Carolina to help the victims of Hurricane Floyd and <br />Hurricane Irene; and <br /> WHEREAS, a long-term recovery process is expected and citizens in <br />eastern North Carolina will continue to need assistance for many months as <br />they work to rebuild their homes and their lives; and <br /> WHEREAS, a disaster relief collection site will be set up at the <br />Cabarrus County Fairgrounds on October 23, 1999 to accept donations of such <br />items as baby products, cleaning supplies and non-perishable food for the <br />victims of Hurricane Floyd and Hurricane Irene. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners does hereby proclaim Saturday, October 23, 1999, as <br /> Hurricane Floyd and Hurricane Irene Relief Day <br />in Cabarrus County and urges all citizens to donate generously to help meet <br />the needs of the thousands of people of eastern North Carolina who have been <br />affected by Hurricane Floyd and Hurricane Irene and the devastation they left <br />behind. <br /> Adopted this 18tn day of October, 1999. <br /> _/s/ Arne L.
