430

Purchase of Properties (Corban and Church Street) and Adoption of Related Budget
Amendment

Mr. Clifton reviewed the proposal to buy three parcels of property at the
Corban and Church Street intersection, demolish the buildings and use the
property for public and employee parking. The County Historical Society has
requested that the County save the old Carolina Tire building as it has an art
deco facade. However, Mr. Clifton recommended that the Board decline to
purchase that property if it does not intend to demolish the building.

There was discussion regarding the cost of the property and the future need
for additional parking close to the Governmental Center, Courthouse and Law
Enforcement Complex.

UPON MOTION of Commissioner Niblock, seconded by Commissioner Barnhart with
Commissioners Niblock, Barnhart and Mills and Chairman Casper voting for and
Commissioner Carpenter voting against, the Board approved the purchase of the
following property and adopted the related budget amendment. Further, the Board
agreed that it would not consider the Historical Society's request to preserve
the old Carolina Tire building.

Parcel 1

Owner: J. A.
