551 <br /> <br />The Resolution stated the residents' support of the following improvements and <br />changes in Weddington Road: <br /> <br />(1) <br /> <br />(2) <br /> <br />(3) <br /> <br />(4) <br /> <br />(5) <br /> <br />(6) <br /> <br />Widening of Weddington Road to a maximum of three lanes, <br />including a center turning lane; <br />Construction of sidewalks or bike paths along Weddington Road <br />where both safe and desirable; <br />Prohibition of through trucks from Weddington Road from Pitts <br />School Road to Rockhill Church Road; <br />Continued use of Rockhlll Church Road to connect to U.S. 29 <br />from Weddington Road; <br />Construction of a pedestrian walkway or pedestrian activated <br />traffic signals at the new Westside Elementary School; and <br />Only those changes to Weddington Road in the area serving the <br />current Concord Farms Property consistent with the zoning <br />restrictions filed with the county, especially those limiting <br />truck usage. <br /> <br />Further, the Resolution listed the residents' opposition to the following items: <br />(1) any proposed action to make Weddington Road four lanes wide or wider; (2) the <br />extension of Weddington Road to U. S. 29; and (3) any change that will increase <br />truck traffic. <br /> <br /> Ms. LaBelle reported that the main concern regarding Weddington Road is the <br />issue of safety, especially with the construction of the new school. She stated <br />she has worked closely with the homeowner's association and the group is <br />following proper procedures in addressing transportation concerns in its <br />community. <br /> <br /> Mr. John Loeb of the Windrose Subdivision expressed concern about the <br />potential exposure of exhaust fumes to children. He asked that the Board <br />consider this concern when future industrial rezoning issues are brought before <br />the Board. <br /> <br />Foster Children's Volunteer Fund <br /> <br /> Commissioner Casper announced that $1,400.00 had been raised for the Foster <br />Children's Volunteer Fund at the County Complex parking lot during Fair Week. <br /> <br />Closed Session <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Fennel, seconded by Chairman Barnhart and <br />unanimously carried, the Board moved to go into closed session pursuant to North <br />Carolina General Statutes 143-318.11(a)(4) to consider the location of a new <br />business in Cabarrus County. The Board invited Mr. Gerald Newton, Mr. Maurice <br />Ewing and Mr. Rob Wallace to attend the closed session. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Casper, seconded by Chairman Barnhart and <br />unanimously carried, the Board voted to come out of closed session. <br /> <br />No action was reported from the closed session. <br /> <br />Adjournment <br /> <br /> There being no further business to come before the Board, Chairman Barnhart <br />adjourned the meeting at 10:30 P.M. <br /> <br />Clerk to the Board <br /> <br /> <br />
