Also, <br />the cost estimates for the proposed new westside school will be reviewed. <br /> <br />Resolution Supporting Legislative Authority for Counties to Enact Additional <br />Local Option Sales Tax <br /> <br /> The Board reviewed the proposed resolution seeking legislative authority <br />for counties to enact an additional local option sales tax to fund capital needs <br />for education. A number of counties throughout North Carolina have approved a <br />similar resolution. After discussion, the Board revised the proposed resolution <br />to include the use of sales tax funds for specified major capital needs (in <br />addition to education) and added a sunset clause with a provision for voter <br />approval. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Carpenter read into the record the following statement from <br />Commissioner Casper who was not present for the meeting. <br /> <br />Because of recent surgery, I am unable to participate this evening. <br />However, I am recovering nicely and able to maintain my day to day <br />county commitments from home. <br /> <br /> <br />
