253 <br /> <br />sick leave in accordance with this policy. Sick leave with pay is <br />not a right which an employee may demand but a privilege granted by <br />the Board of Commissioners for the benefit of an employee when sick, <br /> <br /> Sick leave shall be granted to an employee absent from work for <br />any of the following reasons: sickness, bodily injury, required <br />physical examinations, dental examinations and treatment, or <br />exposure to a contagious disease when continuing work might <br />jeopardize the health of others. <br /> <br /> Sick Leave may also be used when illness, injury, or a medical <br />appointment of a member of an employee's immediate family (that <br />lives in the same household as the employee, and/or for whom the <br />employee has legal responsibility) requires the presence of the <br />employee, but may not exceed forty-eight (48) hours [sixty-four (64) <br />hours for Emergency Medical Services Personnel] for any one calendar <br />year. <br /> <br /> Sick leave may be used for death in the employee's immediate <br />family, but may not exceed twenty-four (24) hours [thirty-two (32) <br />hours for Emergency Medical Services Personnel] for any one <br />occurrence, except by special permission from the department head. <br /> <br /> Immediate family shall be deemed to include spouse, mother, <br />father, guardian, children, sister, brother, grandparents, <br />grandchildren, plus the various combinations of half, step, tn-law, <br />and adoptive relationships that can be derived from those named. <br /> <br /> Notification of the desire to take sick leave should be <br />submitted to the employee's supervisor prior to the leave or not <br />later than two (2) hours after the beginning of the scheduled <br />workday. <br /> <br />Consideration of Regular Meeting Schedule <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Chairman Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner Casper with <br />Chairman Carpenter and Commissioners Casper and Payne voting for and <br />Commissioners Fennel and Barnhart voting against, the Board tabled consideration <br />of the regular meeting schedule until the last meeting in May. <br /> <br />Board of Health Recommendation Relative to Landfill Operation <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Payne, seconded by Commissioner Casper and <br />unanimously carried, the Board accepted the recommendation of the Board of Health <br />to reject the offer by Browning Ferris Industries (BFI) to accept all of Cabarrus <br />County's waste for the period January 1, 1992 through December 31, 2002, and for <br />the County to remain in the Landfill business. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />Resolution Approving the Installment Purchase Contract and Related Matters for <br />the Al, .L. Brown High School Project <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Barnhart, seconded by Commissioner Fennel and <br />unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Resolution relative to the <br />A. L. Brown High School Project. <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION OF <br /> CABARRUS COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />APPROVING THE INSTALLMENT PURCHASE CONTRACT <br />AND RELATED MATTERS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Cabarrus County, North Carolina (the "Purchaser") is a duly <br />created, organized and existing municipal corporation of the State of North <br />Carolina; <br /> WHEREAS, the Purchaser has the power, pursuant to Section 160A-20 of the <br />General Statutes of North Carolina, to enter into installment contracts to <br />finance the purchase of real or personal property and the construction on real <br />property of fixtures or improvements; <br /> <br /> <br />
