552 <br /> <br />2. A County vehicle may be assigned to an individual employee who <br /> regularly requires vehicular transportation in the performance of <br /> his assigned duties and responsibilities and requires the use of the <br /> vehicle during off duty time. <br /> The assignment may be of a permanent nature or for a specified time <br /> period, such as a week of on-call duty. <br />3. During vacation periods or leaves of absences, an employee who is <br /> assigned a vehicle on a non-permanent basis, will turn the vehicle <br /> in to their department. <br />Personal Use of County Vehicles <br />1. No employee may use the vehicle assigned to him for personal <br /> business. <br />2. When the vehicle is not being used for County business purposes, it <br /> is to be kept on the premises of Cabarrus County except as <br /> specifically exempted by a department head. <br />3. No County vehicle will be allowed to be driven to an employee's home <br /> unless the employee is subject to frequent and emergency duty after <br /> normal working hours. Exceptions to this policy will be made with <br /> the approval of the department head. <br /> <br />Only the following employees will be authorized to drive County <br />Vehicles to their homes: <br /> 1 Animal Control Officers on call <br /> 2 Emergency Management Director <br /> 3 Fire Marshall <br /> 4 Sheriff and Deputies Jailers not included <br /> 5 Garage - on call personnel <br /> 6 Buildings & Grounds Maintenance o on call <br /> personnel <br /> 7. Landfill Supervisor <br /> 8. Emergency Medical Services Director <br /> 9. Water and Sewer Director <br />An employee's title or position will not be regarded as justification <br />for taking a County vehicle home; rather, justification is to be <br />based on the above criteria without regard to official capacity. <br /> <br />Accident Policy <br /> <br />Regardless of the situation, the following procedures must be followed in the <br />event of an accident. <br /> 1. Immediate notification of proper law enforcement agency for accident <br /> investigation and report. <br /> 2.Notification of Garage Manager within 24 hours. <br /> 3. Immediate notification of the Department Head or delegate of the <br /> Department Head. <br /> 4. Notification of Finance Director by the Department Head within 24 <br /> hours of accident. <br /> 5. It is necessary to prepare a Cabarrus County Accident Report. The <br /> departments will be given accident report forms or may use approved <br /> forms for reporting accidents. This report must be completed legibly <br /> or the information called into the Finance Department. This report <br /> along with one copy of the law enforcement agency report should be <br /> turned into the Finance Director. <br /> 6. Preparation of the Worker's Compensation claim form if there were <br /> any personal injuries. <br /> 7. The above forms are required to be filed within 3 business days of <br /> an accident. Failure to file the proper reports can result in loss <br /> of County vehicle driving privileges, suspension, demotion or <br /> dismissal. <br /> 8. Finally, the employee involved in an accident is responsible to <br /> obtain a minimum of two (2) damage repair estimates and turn them <br /> in to the Finance Director within 72 hours of the accident. If the <br /> employee is unable to perform this requirement, then the Department <br /> Head is responsible. <br /> <br /> <br />
