This year, we honor all older
residents of Cabarrus County by declaring as our theme for 1991,
"Cabarrus County Older Adults -- Our Greatest Natural Resource."

Cabarrus County citizens age 60 and older have traditionally
served our county in many ways. They serve as volunteers for home
delivered meals, congregate meals, respite care, Senior Games,
Seniors Health Insurance Information Program counselors, health
screenings, transportation, intergenerational and interfaith
activities. Our senior adults serve on local and state boards and
commisSions as members of various committees.

Our older adults are our parents, grandparents and great-
grandparents. They are our leaders, our teachers and our mentors.
Older adults are living history. They house more knowledge than any
library or museum, not necessarily because of attending an
university, but because senior adults were schooled by every day
life experiences that came with age. They have passed onto us
values. They have learned many changes. Therefore, they give us
principles, wisdom and courage.

As a tribute to our county's older adults, the Board of
Commissioners have designated several weeks during May that deserve
special recognition: Senior Fitness Week, Senior Smile Week, Senior
Center Week, Nursing Home Week and Older Veterans Week.
