In response to questions regarding the assets, Mr. <br />Allison reported that the Department had $45,000.00 in its treasury and that the <br />firemen had voted to donate the Suburban vehicle to the Cabarrus County Rescue <br />Squad. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner Barnhart <br />and unanimously carried, the Board tabled consideration of the request relative <br />to the dissolution of the Pitts Volunteer Fire Department until the meeting on <br />May 13. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Barnhart, seconded by Commissioner Carpenter <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Resolution. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION TO PROCLAIM <br />MILITARY APPRECIATION AND WELCOME HOME DAY <br />IN CABARRUS COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the people of Cabarrus County are eternally indebted to <br />the people of the United States Armed Forces and <br />especially those from Cabarrus County for their service <br />to our nation during Operation Desert Storm and all <br />previous wars; and <br /> <br />these men and women have selflessly and tirelessly <br />devoted themselves to their duty in the defense of our <br />nation and in support of the world community through the <br />enforcement of Resolutions adopted by the United Nations; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the overwhelming success of Operation Desert Storm was <br />only possible through the efforts of those hundreds of <br />thousands of Americans and allied coalition partners who <br />planned, prepared and conducted one of the most <br />successful military actions in the history of the world; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />each person serving in the armed forces in support of <br />Operation Desert Storm and all previous wars, and the <br />families of those persons serving, have made enormous <br />sacrifices for the cause of peace in the world. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners of <br />the County of Cabarrus do on this date suspend its proceedings to <br />offer a moment of silent prayer and meditation in appreciation for <br />all those who served in Operation Desert Storm and all previous wars, <br />and the families of those who served, especially for those of <br />Cabarrus County who paid the ultimate price for freedom. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of the <br />County of Cabarrus, North Carolina, hereby proclaims May 12, 1991, <br />MILITARY APPRECIATION AND WELCOME HOME DAY, so that we may express <br />our appreciation to all those who were serving and those called to <br />serve in Operation Desert Storm and all previous wars, and to honor <br />theTM permanently in the records of this great County. <br /> <br />Adopted this the 6th day of May, 1991. <br /> <br />/s/ Frankie F. He noted that a majority of the residents of the area <br />had originally signed a petition in support of water service and the <br />establishment of the tax district.
