The legislation should include the following:
that there be a requirement of a petition signed by at least 20 percent of the
registered voters in the jurisdiction; that the Board of Elections hold a recall
election within 60 days of signature verification; that upon the certification
of the elections results, the office in question be declared vacant immediately;
and that the Board of Elections hold a subsequent election within 120 days of
the recall election results being finalized for the purpose of filling the
vacancy created. The Board further authorized the County Attorney to survey
other states and to alter the proposed legislation as it appears appropriate.
The proposed legislation is to be brought to the Board for its review and
approval at the first meeting in January.
The Board by consensus authorized Mr. Michael M. Ruffin, County Manager,
to continue his current policy whereby capital outlay requests for new equipment
during the fiscal year will be brought to the Board for approval.
Mr. Michael M. Ruffin, County Manager, reported that the liaison meeting
